El alojamiento
Lovingly restored, this traditional farmhouse is laid out over three floors.

On the ground floor, there’s a large living space with a sizeable, fully-equipped kitchen leading to a dining area which can seat up to 12 people. . There are also plenty of books, games and toys to keep you entertained. A first aid kit is kept on this floor

French doors in both rooms lead to the patio and garden.

The grounds have been landscaped and are now home to a fabulous 10mx 5m astral salt swimming pool. This is for the use for anyone who is renting the house - and there’s a historic mineral water font at the bottom of the garden, which would once have served as a stopping place for travellers on hot days.

On route to the first floor, you’ll find the first of three bathrooms. This is a beautiful space, converted from an old wine store and retaining the original curved archways and stone walls. The walk-in glass shower and double-ended bath make it the perfect space to relax after a busy day of hiking.

On the first floor you’ll find a second bathroom, two double bedrooms with mountain views and one twin bedroom. A central lounge and small kitchen space provide a useful back-up for larger groups. A large balcony delivers glorious views over the mountains and garden.

The second floor has a spacious living room with a wood-beamed ceiling, as well as the most beautiful views. It's the perfect room to relax with air conditioning, TV and DVD. Loads of videos and books to choose from

There’s another bathroom on this floor, alongside two king-sized bedrooms and a comfy bunk room - for adults or children!

Province of Fermo, Le Marche, Italia

The villa is in the tiny hamlet of Vidoni. There are just eight other houses, most of which are only in occasional use. It's an incredibly peaceful place.

The house is surrounded by views of the Sibillini mountains. There are many nearby hilltop towns, including Amandola and Sarnano. They're both within a 20-minute drive and offer and good range of shops, cafes and restaurants.

There is so much to do
Cookery classes can be arranged at the house
Bike and electric bike hire is available. If requested the bikes can be dropped off at the house
Ballooning, walking, horse riding is all on offer

It doesn't matter what time of year you spend here, you'll find lots to do... In the summer months, you can swim in the clear mountain waters at Lago di Fiastra. It's 30-minutes from the house. We'd recommend stopping at the Sassotetto viewpoint and cafe on route. It's right on top of the mountain, with breathtaking views in every direction. In the winter, it switches into a ski resort; easily accessible from the house.

If you'd like a day-trip, the town of Loreto is an hour away. It's one of the most famous Catholic pilgrimage sites in Italy, with the Basilica della Santa Casa said to contain the perfectly-preserved house in which the Virgin Mary lived in.

Also on the coast, you'll find the seaside towns of Porto Sant'Elpidio and Porto San Giorgio and San Benedetto del Tronto. Each offers a protected sandy beach and a wide selection of beachfront bars and seafood restaurants. They're each about 1hr by car.

Ascoli Piceno is the nearby regional capital. It's an ancient city, founded several centuries before Rome. Another wonderful nearby attraction is the ancient town of Castellucio. It's sited on a hilltop in the middle of a dormant volcanic plateau. If you visit in spring or summer, you'll witness the incredible patchwork quilt of wildflowers all all around the town, and you'll also be able to purchase the celebrated Castellucio lentils. There are lots of caves in the area. Some of the most spectacular can be found at Frasassi. They even encompass a 10th century chapel.

Festivals are something the locals do with great expertise. August is the best month to come to experience them, although they start as early as June. Servigiliano has a week of jousting and shows. Amandola has a festival of ice cream. Macerata has an amphitheatre where opera and musicals are put on for everyone to enjoy.

I'm a retired nurse, married with two children and two grandchildren. I live in Scotland most of the year, but I also love to travel. I first visited Italy 30-years ago, and I've loved it ever since. Every visit provides new surprises, and learning about the food, language and culture has been a real joy.
