El lugar

CLOSED FOR 2017

The setting is an exclusive and private let for a small converted stables with the surrounding land and facilities.

The building is a quirky, compact and comfortable space. Open-plan downstairs with living room, bedroom and bathroom (with jumbo sized bath and good shower). Also includes a small kitchenette with sink, two fridges, and basic storage (there's very little kitchen work space and no indoor dining area). There is now a 'camp kitchen' behind the stables to give more room for cooking - this comes with three camping gas hob rings, a halogen oven, microwave, tripod bbq, lots of utensils and various pots and pans. There is a large picnic bench outside the camp kitchen. There is also lots of space for bbq'ing and eating down by the hot tub.

The main bedroom has a superking bed with memory foam mattress (luxury bedding, see reviews). The living room has 2 sofa beds (fine for kids, but not for tall people) TV and wood burner. The main bed and the 'tree-house' play room in the loft space are the most comfortable spaces. There is a decking area/balcony off the living room with a table and 4 chairs. There is also a summer house with sofa bed and ready-to-use bell tent with double bed and wood burner, both can be made into comfortable sleeping spaces for larger groups.

The letting comfortably sleeps 4-8 between the bell tent and stable building. It ideally suits small groups and parents with kids, but if you have a larger party please contact us to discuss potential sleeping arrangements as we can accommodate larger numbers.

Disponible para huéspedes

To all 3 acres of riverside woodland... stunning and slightly wild garden space to explore and relax in peace.

Wood-fired hot tub, summer house, various BBQ facilities, seating areas and picnic tables, hammocks, swing bench, swing seats etc.

Internet access provided via 10 Mbit connection with full wifi access, power points and router added by the hot tub/bbq, hammocks, and in the stables itself.

Atención a los huéspedes

We're happy to interact with friendly guests, or to steer clear of romantic getaways and meditative retreats. We live in the main house across the road, but you will have the gardens to yourself - apart from possible garden maintenance and we will give you 'privacy cones' (traffic cones) to put out if you want us to steer clear of any given area for whatever reason

Otros aspectos destacables

Things have changed for 2016. Instead of the hamper we'll be including a quality cooked breakfast made at your convenience each morning. You can arrange this in more detail when you book, so it can be tailored to your group.

The property is served by a private water supply from a spring on the land (UV cleaned and filtered), and we're largely solar powered (during the summer). Easy parking in front of the building. Safe and secure... no break in's or crimes in this hamlet in anyone's living memory. We have a dog and he's very friendly, probably too friendly, we can shut him in if he's not your cup of tea :/. The TV does receive digital reception and can play DVDs.

There is NO mobile reception anywhere in a 2 mile radius of the house, but we do have decent internet connection speeds and ranging WiFi (one router in the stables, one by the hot tub/bell tent).

We provide quality, clean bedding for the super king main bed (very comfy) and for the small loft rooms and bell tent. If you need more than 4 beds then you'll need to bring extra pillows and sleeping bags /duvets yourselves for the sofa beds etc, as we only have bedding for 4 sleeping spaces (up to 8 people, 6 in great comfort, 2 with a real squeeze to get in to the smallest loft room).

The hot tub is filled from a clean tap and emptied into the river (just a particle filter), so we don't use any chemicals or bathroom products in there and it is good for only 3-4 days before the water needs changing (depending on how much you use it and how dirty you get the water). It takes at least 8 hours using the solid fuel chofu to heat the tub. It will always be clean and hot for a new arrival. I will offer to clean and reheat a fresh tub for bookings of 5 nights or more. Once you get here it's up to you to keep the fire going. We provide free 'house coal' and dry wood for the hot tub, but please use it sensibly and sparingly... not for bonfires etc.

This is a remote and rural setting, so you should expect seasonal pests like midges and spiders.

We don't ask for a deposit for the projector or screen, so we just operate a 'you break it, you replace it' honour system. Bring a device that has an HDMI port if you want to use it. Travel speakers might also be better than the little ipod dock speakers in the stables.

Reglas de la casa
La hora de llegada es a partir de las 12:00

Please don't smoke inside the stables itself and please don't leave cigarette ends (the foam kind) in the garden. No 'loud' music outside after 10pm, but you can be 'loud' in the stables. Obviously you can still play music and have fun outside at night, just don't blast your toons at full whack after dark. Basically do whatever you do at home and treat this place as a private, safe and friendly space - we're open-minded, rational and peace-loving; the last thing we want is to cause trouble for a paying guest.

Absolutely loved it and can't wait to return! Wouldn't recommend for those who want a 5 star luxury as it's more glamping with the option of camping in the bell tent. It was perfect for us and a mini paradise, we were so sad to leave and can't wait to return. There's something so very beautiful and special about this place! Sam, James and bodie were the perfect hosts but captain really stole our hearts (sorry guys!).

Respuesta de James & Sam:
I'm so sorry it was so wet and muddy for your stay here guys (I think this must be the wettest August on record for Wales). Hopefully you'll see it at its best next time. Congrats again for the nuptials =)

James and Sam were great hosts, made us feel really welcome and gave us help any advice when needed. the accommodation was wonderful, enjoyed the hot tub and the beautiful surroundings. this was the perfect place for us to spend our honeymoon and would love to go back again. would recommend taking wellies so that you can walk in the river and enjoy all the land even if the weather is slightly inclement.

This really is a magical location. Behind the charming converted stable where the main bedrooms are located, there are several acres of peaceful woodland to explore, with surprises around almost every corner. From a hidden wooden summerhouse on the hillside, to a trampoline in the woods, this site is perfect for those who like to explore, those who enjoy the outdoors, or those who just need a bit of a break from the stress of work or the city. We probably fell into all three categories – and we loved the place. One of its main selling points is, of course, the outdoor hot-tub. Situated right on the bank of a small river that winds its way through the woods, the hours we spent in the tub were very much like something from a fairytale. It’s certainly a nice way to begin – or end – the day. If you like wildlife it also makes a great viewing gallery. One of our own personal highlights was seeing the silhouette of a huge gangly heron swooping down out of the sky at sunset. With the stable backing on to the woodland, and separating the site from the owner’s house, there is plenty of privacy. James and Sam are very friendly, generous, and available when needed (just a knock away) but they will leave you to your own devices otherwise. The site was very clean when we arrived and they have a great attention to detail and an eye for relaxation – it was sometimes hard to know whether to recline on the giant beanbags, on the rocking bench, or in the hot tub! Life can be so tough… On the practical tips side of things – with this being a genuinely secluded spot, some planning is advisable for food/drink. There is a well-stocked Spa about a ten minute drive away, however you probably won’t want to be driving back and forth all the time, so a shopping list for the day is a good idea. The site has an outdoor cooking hut with camping stoves with hobs, and a good bbq that is conveniently built in alongside the hot-tub, and picnic tables. James and Sam also have a big allotment overflowing with fresh fruit and veg which they are more than happy for guests to share. And their homemade bread is not to be missed.

The stable and our hosts were excellent. The hot tub and BBQ area were a particular favourite with our group, it's where we spent most of our time. James and Sam provided us with a welcome pack which was very thoughtful. We would highly recommend the stable to everyone and look forward to going back.

Me and my wife came here for our honeymoon, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We arrived late in the evening, and James had already prepared the hot tub for us. On top of this we had gorgeous home made bread and Champaign waiting in the stables. The scenery and the garden area have not been given justice by the photo's you can see on airbnb. The hot tub and bbq area are like a fairy tale scene, and the surrounding area are so peaceful that you can really forget yourself in this beautiful hidden gem of the country. Both James and Sam are very social and friendly people, and anything you asked they would more than happy try and help you with. On the second night we made a stew for everyone, using meat from a local butchers, and only fresh veg from James and Sam's garden. It was probably the best tasting home made stew ever. We would be stupid not to come back, and plan to next year.

James and Sam are the perfect hosts - friendly and welcoming, helpful and discreet (invisible unless we needed them). As ex-Londoners, they know the importance of location (absolutely idyllic) and of mod cons (nice bathroom, very comfy beds, woodburning stove, hot tub). The stable building is small but with the loft beds for older children (loved the quirky decor!) and the luxury tent in the garden, we (2 adults + 3 teens) had plenty of room to spread out. Even I, an anti-camper, spent 2 nights in the tent out of choice as it was so nice out there. The only downside is the lack of cooking facilities inside the house. There is a very nice barbecue area by the stream, which we made good use of. There's also a 'camping kitchen' in a shed in the garden with gas rings and microwave, but cooking in a shed was too much like camping for me so we ate salads instead, or ate out - hardly a big sacrifice and well worth it for the chance to be in this glorious location. It was the most relaxed I've felt in years! Would gladly come back - with or without the children. Thank you, James and Sam!

We're lucky to live in a really beautiful place. I'm from London and Sam's from Hereford. We have a cat, dog and chickens... oh, and a new baby called Bodhi too. We grow lots of our own fruit and veg and we're trying to live 'the good life' here in our magical Pembrokeshire woodland.

We're both happy, chirpy and friendly... except when we're not. We both love people... especially the nice ones.

We have lots of space and it's such a beautiful place, sharing it is a pleasure.
