Swim, horse-trek, cross-country ski, ice-skate, camp, forage, walk, photography courses, massage, yoga, sauna, cleanse or just RELAX. We are a simple, stylish but laid-back b&b with fantastic local and home-grown food available. EVERYONE welcome, very pet & child-friendly. DUE TO DRIER SUMMERS, THE POOL IS NO LONGER GUARANTEED TO BE OPEN....but there are plenty of lakes with beaches nearby which are much, much nicer to swim in for small kids all the way up to adults.

Gnesta, Södermanland County, Suecia

A mixture of farming families, hippies and ex-Stockholmare living how they choose to in beautiful un-spoilt, freely-accessable countryside. In the area there's a lot you can do if you like nature...canoeing, island-picnicking, wild spa treatments, fishing, wonderful lake swimming, trail walking, horse tours , cycling or just hang out on the farm and flop by the pool....We have a table tennis table, bicycles , a small pool and a place where you can make a fire and sit out under the stars and unwind....

FOOD & ALCOHOL
1st Alcohol.....being Sweden, they have a funny system whereby you can only buy 3.5% or under in shops. There is a dedicated alcohol shop SYSTEMBOLAGET, next to ICA, where you can buy all sorts of grog (look out for my friend & local brewer's www.denbryggandehollandaren.se interesting selection of beer & ales .Wilbert also runs BREWING COURSES....this is a real character of a Dutchman who really knows his craft inside out....highly recommended!).

Gnesta itself has a good supermarket COOP (across from the train/bus station) with a selection of local and organic produce. It's also small so doesn't have the same monstrous supermarket feeling as the other 2 (ICA & Hemköpp).

You can pre-order the best locally killed & butchered game (in season - October- March/April) - Deer, Elk, Wild Boar from Tage - 0046761910901.

A fantastic new vegetarian (meat-eaters do not be put off, i had one of the best burgers of my life here....made from beans!) restaurant/concert venue, local hang spot with THE BEST coffee (at the best price) in Gnesta, hands-down or your money back!

www.varlokal.se

The only other restaurant worth mentioning (there are 7 pizzerias!!! Newly opened Broccoli is probably best of a bad bunch) is Gnesta Strand. They do good value food in a beautiful setting beside the lake (or just have a drink & watch the passer's by).

MUSIC & CULTURE
An exciting art space / home brewery....

The library is great if you need any extra info on activities in the area (it doubles as a tourist info spot).

Otherwise, keep an eye out or ask Joe or Tatty if there are any upcoming markets, Loppis (particularly Swedish flea-market with everything from axes-antiques) or record fayres.....

If you would like to see something between the country and Stockholm, there is Järna, a small hippyish town on the way to Stockholm (and right next to Yttrejärna) has some good concerts and places to eat

www.gulavillan.info (music/theatre in the same building as Skåpmat...see below)

www.whiteguide.se/restaurang/skapmat (fantastic small restaurant serving modern takes on classic Swedish food with local ingredients)

Åsgatan 2 (White Guide listed cafe / lunch spot)

Ytterjärna, a small community based on the principles of Rudolph Steiner http://ytterjarna.se/ with interesting architecture, courses, biodynamic gardening, it's own homeopathic hospital and a great restaurant/cafe....

We moved as a family,Tatty, me & kids (10-16years) to Sweden 7 years ago from Scotland to escape the rain and grey and make a simpler life in a country with a longer growing season. We converted an area of the old hay-loft for the b&b to offer the type of accommodation we ourselves would seek out. We are people who love to be outside and as close to nature as possible, we love to share our home with others and the influx of energy that brings... We love REAL food i.e local, free-range & well grown. Camping, growing, horses, cycling, natural building, bonfires, music and dancing are a few of the things that inspire and fire us! We are fairly widely travelled as a family, UK, Australia, India, Sri Lanka, Morocco, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Carribean, Thailand, Egypt are a few of the places we have visited. As far as a life motto......maybe something like....'haters gonna hate, potatoes gonna potate '.
