This review may sound as if I’m being defensive and that’s because I am.
We take pride in our house and enjoy sharing the lake, the views, the dock and everything else that makes our home special to us. Be careful prior to renting to this guest, I don’t know if she understands the concept of “sharing” a property with its owners or that she’s not staying at a resort with full time staff. This guest performed white glove test on countertops upon arrival and informed us of soap scummed shower walls and dirty countertops. These bathrooms as well as the entire house was cleaned 4 days to this guests arrival. The second day we received notice that the suite over the garage was full of gnats, and the smoke alarm in that room chirped all night. She reiterated the house did not meet her standard of cleanliness as well as the refrigerator was not cleaned out. We discovered after further communication they disconnected the thermostat on the wall in the suite over the garage to stop the chirping smoke detector after battery change did not solve problem. Now they had no working AC.(Not sure why they thought the two were connected.) In my opinion, they left the door open to cool that room, hence the gnats....Where I agree a chirping smoke alarm is a nuisance, We can hardly be held responsible for when it goes out. We called to try to resolve these issues immediately and our guest informed us she wanted a 50% reduction in her three (3) night stay. We informed her that we would resolve any issues but if she wanted a reduction in her stay, we would like her to check out that day. We followed it up with a proactive call to Airbnb who called our guest and reiterated our offer to depart early. Guest declined, and so we sent a cleaning crew back to re-clean as well as someone to resolve smoke detector issue. We heard nothing further from our guests the rest of the weekend. We use our Lake house any weekend it’s not in rental, so the following weekend was no exception. Upon arrival we found the house was a complete mess. The kitchen was “tidy” but the rest of the house needed a lot of work. It was evident by the 8 beds that were slept in and 14 sets of sheets left to clean, that our guest exceeded the 10 person limit. There were cups, bottles and other trash left beside beds, and couches. Throw blankets and pillows were left on the floor in the den area and in bedrooms. Our towel supply, which is VAST, were left dirty and scattered. The awning on the back deck was left extended with no thought or care if it could be damaged in a high wind. Again, please consider carefully prior to sharing your home with this guest. This was NOT a group of people that understand the concept of “sharing” a house.
