The garden at Swan Cottage is a fantastic place to enjoy the more clement weather that Norfolk has to offer. There is a large gravelled driveway with parking for several cars (at least four) and space to park a boat if you so desire.
The five-bar gate, once closed, ensures that the front garden is fully enclosed for four legged guests. Whilst the poolside garden is fenced and gated to ensure younger guests and dogs can only access whilst supervised. The poolside garden is not fully enclosed, the lawn slopes down to the creake which runs along the bottom of the garden (great for Pooh Sticks but not great for unsupervised pets or small children).
The 10m x 5M heated swimming pool is accessed by steps in one corner, its all one depth (around 4ft) and is available to use from May half term through to the middle of September (unless the weather is being very unfair). There is a variety of reclining chairs and outdoor giant bean bags to chill out on.
At the end of the pool is the outdoor kitchen and dining area. This is a great space to enjoy the garden, there is a wood fired pizza oven, built-in gas BBQ, brazier to provide some heat later on, fridge, large polished concrete bar with cupboards beneath and power sockets to plug in your music. There are bar stools around the bar and a round rattan dining table with glass top and six chairs, all undercover with with colour changing LED lighting. There is also a rattan sofa and two chairs with coffee table looking out over the pool.
In this garden there are two swings for our younger guests to enjoy.
Please note that use of any of the outdoor facilities at Swan Cottage is entirely at guest's own risk.
South Creake is a charming Village and Swan Cottage is located on the outer edge of the village, on the way to North Creake. The River Burn runs through the village (and passed the bottom of the garden at Swan Cottage) and there is a great playing field with a playground and football field, lots od ducks and tennis courts. The village pub is The Plume of Feathers which serves food and sells some basic provisions. There is also the Creake Crab Shack and a fantastic veg stand, selling great local produce.
In North Creake (about one mile away) is the Jolly Farmers, a lovely traditional pub serving great home cooked food and also Creake Abbey which has interesting array of artisan shops and a fantastic food hall and cafe - an absolute must if you are staying at Swan Cottage.
The Duck at Stanhoe is about 10 mins away, it is superb and very popular, so definitely book (it does serve Sunday lunch all day though, which is worth knowing). The cottage is about five minutes drive to Burnham Market with its array of shops, a great butcher and the famous Hoste Arms. To get to the coast takes only 10mins either to Brancaster or Wells-Next-The-Sea and it's about the same to distance to Fakenham for the supermarkets (Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl & Aldi).
