Please note: Our home is a fairly basic set up. Nothing really fancy in terms of decor, but we have a clean home, newer clean beddings and beds, comfortable couches, etc. Note: Furniture & color may change between photos , piano there now, etc. Near beaches, boardwalk and downtown. The home is quiet, with a little modern and definite rustic feel. Milder region of SC, Short walk to Boardwalk, downtown, beaches, Redwoods to hike, bike, golf, etc. Concert series at the Boardwalk Fri.

Dan was excellent at communicating with us about everything..there is nothing better than a host who is attentive to your needs can't give enough credit for that. Its nothing fancy but it was very clean and welcoming location (great for those visiting the wharf beach and boardwalk all about 10 minutes walk away) Easy access and despite the location being very close to things it is pleasantly quiet and a peaceful place to sleep. It was nice to be able to utilize a full kitchen with no shared spaces the house was all to ourselves, stove barbecue and fridge cooking utensils etc. Overall a really great find and a very reasonable price Dan was fantastic with communication and his customer service was excellent. We will definitely be looking to book here next time we go to Santa Cruz.

We are a couple in our 50's and have enjoyed a number of Air BnB properties with our friends and we don't have a problem staying in homes with older furniture, fixtures and appliances but this place was beyond old. When I was in my 20's I had a boyfriend who was a surfer and this place reminded me of some of the places we stayed. Dingy, gross looking couches, lamp without a lampshade, mattresses on the floors of two of the bedrooms, window without curtain and screen, pieces of countertop missing in the kitchen, unknown food rotting in refrigerator, cloudy water in Keurig, wires on the floor in hallway, sliding patio door nailed shut and the tall white plastic receptacle in the kitchen marked "Trash" in black magic marker. So disappointing! If any of that sounds good to you be my guest. We could not, in our right mind stay there, and went to a hotel.

Save your $ and stay somewhere else, otherwise end up like us searching for a hotel last minute (for 3 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs) and be out more $ in long run. We spent nearly double our budget due to this deplorable unit. Misrepresented listing - though it seems to have been updated since I booked my stay. The place looks like an abandoned frat house. Poorly ventilated and just unsafe. There were broken tiles on floor and on counterd that you could easily cut yourself on. Exposed plumbing in kitchen. Dirt/dust on floors. My 10yr old son got locked in the bathroom because door needs to be routed. There are wires and cables everywhere! Windows are covered in plastic, screens ripped wide open and many just won't open. I couldn't even let my dogs stay there, they would suffocate. We refused to stay there and requested full refund. Dan's only concern was getting a positive review and made me "agree to the terms of a review" before he'd start refund process. Even said anything "lower than 4/5 stars is detrimental to to a Host's Listing". No concern for us, just money. He lied to Airbnb saying we had a family emergency and had to leave after 1st night (we didn't even stay an hour!) and told me he would personally refund any remaining balance that they wouldn't. Too bad for Dan he didn't realize Airbnb monitors all conversations. Busted! He should be kicked off Airbnb. He lowers their standards. Honestly, our vacation was ruined because of this situation. We had no spending money left due to hotel costs and couldn't go to boardwalk as a family because dogs aren't allowed there or in hotels unsupervised. We only brought them because we thought we had a house for them. My kids second trip to Santa Cruz will hopefully be better than their first :(

I would advise against renting from Dan. He waited longer than 24 hours to accept my initial bid, but then assured me I could re-bid and he would accept. However, he raised the price between the two bids, and explained the difference in price was a $200 security deposit that he guaranteed I would have refunded. I was skeptical because a deposit was not listed in the Airbnb price breakdown, but by this point a lot of time had passed, and I felt obligated into booking Simply Pearl. After our stay, he refused to refund the $200, and now Airbnb has to settle our dispute. The place was dusty, and the floor was so slippery that we all fell down, including my elderly mother who hurt her arm. One of the two showers did not work on our first day, although Dan had it fixed by the second day. The windows did not have curtains, so we had to go buy some. The bedrooms were basically just empty rooms with mattresses on the floor. On the positive side, the location was excellent and it was easy to park. This whole situation is very upsetting to my entire family, and my parents have vowed to never use Airbnb again. It completely ruins the memory of our family vacation because we can't talk about it without remembering how Dan cheated us.

It is sad that the company can allow this sort of misrepresentation to be posted. A in Chris' remarks. This kind of fabrication and twisting of the facts has NEVER happened in the history of our Airbnb Listings and I've never heard of it from any other fellow Hosts either. First of all, Chris insisted that I return a Deposit. Well that would certainly have been the case... IF we had actually charged him one. We did not. And just because the price was adjusted by our assistant in between the time he first viewed our Listing and the time that he booked (not even the same day) is not the fault of our own. When Chris booked he CLEARLY sees the price being charged. Exaggerations: Our home may be older and a bit rustic in style, doesn't mean it's dirty and how can you put blame on a HOST for water that you leave on the floor by you or guest?, it wasn't left wet when you arrived. Finally, the VERY reason he got a LOWER rate than normal was because we were still in process of setting up all our beds and he knew this, we told him that from the start. (A perfect example of gross exaggeration is his comment on "dirty floor and carpet" We don't have ANY carpet in the house.) Even though we felt we were VERY justified that he should not receive a refund, we still offered to refund him the difference between what he originally thought the price was and what he was charged, a total of $67. Again, despite this he continued to press for the $200 return deposit for a deposit he was never charged.
