The “little house” is inserted at the tiny village of Moreanes located in the Guadiana Valley National Park in Baixo Alentejo Province, near Mina de Sao Domingos and Mertola. The singularity of its location is due to be integrated in the middle of many other small houses. The insertion of the “little house” in this National Park offers the contact with some species of flora and fauna which are close to extinction and offers as well a place for peaceful reading and meditation.
The “little house” is inserted at the tiny village of Moreanes located in the Guadiana Valley National Park in Baixo Alentejo Province. The singularity of its location is due to be integrated in the middle of many other small houses. With more than 100 years, in old times was used as a barber shop, small pub, sport association and lately as residence. It was rebuilt in 2015 using local traditional techniques and materials (rammed earth) in order to meet itself with nature and culture at its purest stage. The little house has two bedrooms, a sitting/dinning/kitchen room and a bathroom being able to take four people with possibility for further two people. It has air conditioning and salamander in order to be prepared for the thermic amplitudes of winter/ summer. Mértola, museum town, located on the Guadiana river bank is just 10 kilometers away. Mértola is a place full of history and an outstanding attraction polo for scientific archeology research on the pre-roman, roman and islamic periods. Mértola was a very important and strategic town on those different periods and is candidate for Unesco World Heritage. From Mértola a boat may be taken along 70 kilometers down river reaching the beautiful Algarve beaches. By road it will take only 45 minutes to be in Algarve. On the other hand, the “little house” is at 7 Kilometers from Mina de São Domingos, an old mineral area that was explored, from 1858 to 1965, for pyrite by English Society Mason & Berry. Sulphur was produced from the mineral waste on a factory built for that purpose. The history of the exploration can be seen in many places walking through the village. Mina de São Domingos offers as well a very charming large lake where in summer is a pleasant place to have a drink, a snack or an enjoyable swim. The lake has got a EU blue flag. Not far from the “little house” is the village of Pomarão, a river port from which the pyrite was shipped to England. A small bridge links to Spain where a few villages nearby may be visited. Around the “little house” and on closed different villages there are many small restaurants where very tasteful regional food is waiting to be enjoyed. The insertion of the “little house” in the National Park of the Guadiana Valley offers the contact with some species of flora and fauna which are close to extinction and offers as well a place for peaceful reading and meditation.
