The good: the host communicated upfront, coordinated a smooth arrival to get keys late at night, and was very available through messages. The host was nice, accommodating, and willing to work with us to resolve the many problems. He responded promptly to messages and proposed solutions. There was no cleaning fee.
What can be improved: the inaccurate description, the lack of towels, and lack of sheets. The property was advertised as accommodating 4 guests, having 1 bed, 1 fold-out couch, and 1 air mattress. Upon booking, I provided the 4 names of the 4 guests coming to stay . Upon arriving, the property actually had: 1 bed with 1 flat sheet and 1 blanket, 1 fold-out couch with 1 flat sheet, and 2 towels. Therefore, there was no air mattress, not enough sheets, only 1 blanket, and only 2 towels. I messaged the host and he responded promptly. However, he was out of town and he was not available to bring anything to fix the situation, and since it was late at night we had to make due with what was available. The next day we drove to a Target store and purchased sheets, towels, and an air mattress. The host reimbursed us for those items, and after negotiation, gave us a 65% refund on the total cost.
Initially I thought about rating the property lower, but the host was so nice, helpful, and accommodating that he was able to bring up my star rating. I was thankful that the host was quick to respond to messages even if those responses ultimately meant I had to do work to attain basic comforts.
