Wisteria Cottage is a private guest house located at the home of hosts Wayne and Martha Howard. It is a Tiny House that features an efficient single room with large private bath and walk in closet. It has a queen bed, love seat, comfy reading chair, book shelves, kitchen nook and a table for two. Outside is a small screened porch with a water view and a private patio under the shade of a big oak tree looking out at the garden. It is not attached to the main home and has a private entrance.
Guests will be charmed by this Tiny House experience. In the kitchen area they will find a microwave, toaster oven, crock pot, and steamer -just enough to prepare a breakfast or light meal. Plenty of dishes, glassware and utensils stock the cabinets. A small coffee pot is available as well. Book shelves are filled with books and a TV with DVD player is available. The climate is controlled by a window air conditioner in the warm months and a radiator in the cold ones. The cottage features vaulted ceilings and a ceiling fan overhead.
The larger property includes the main home where the owners are full time residents, a carport, this guest house and an outdoor bathroom and shower. It is located just 5 miles from the center of Gulf Shores and only 5 minutes from two beautiful white sandy beaches. The home and guest house were originally built in the 1930's, have withstood many hurricanes and have been renovated several times.
Disponible para huéspedes
On the property guests will find and have access to two other patios. One has a Weber charcoal grill and a table for two that guests may use. The larger patio is on the water side and has two rockers, a swing, and a hammock. It's a great place to enjoy the sunrise or sunset, or just hang out and watch the water.
It is very easy to launch kayaks into Little Lagoon. Wayne and Martha each have one and enjoy paddling and fishing from them. The Lagoon is shallow and mostly clear with a sandy bottom. It is good for swimming, boating, skiing, jet skiing, paddle boarding or floating on a raft.
The fenced yard is perfect for a guest who chooses to bring a small dog with them. Martha and Wayne's beagle mix rescue Abigail hangs out there along with two outside cats named Francine and Bucket.
When the garden is producing guests are welcome to help themselves to its bounty whether it is kale, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and beans in the summer or Muscadines in the fall or lettuces and greens in the winter.
Hosts do not mind if guests come inside the main house to do a little laundry if necessary; the tiny guest house at about 250 sq feet just does not have room for a machine.
Atención a los huéspedes
Wayne and Martha welcome interaction with their guests but at the same time are respectful of their privacy. They are there to answer any questions, make suggestions of what to see and where to eat or just relax and engage in friendly conversation. Over the years the Howards have made many friends among the guests who have stayed in their vacation rental homes and welcome the opportunity to make many more new ones.

Wayne and I are both retired high school teachers. I now spend most of my time selling real estate (I am a licensed Alabama Realtor) and managing property while Wayne, the handyman extraordinaire, keeps up with the maintenance and repairs. We raised a blended family of seven children here on Little Lagoon where we have lived for the past 27 years.
I enjoy cooking and once had my own catering company; Wayne loves to garden and to fish, especially in his new fishing kayak. We both enjoy meeting and getting to know new friends.
We love to travel, though we do not do as much as we used to, with some of our favorite destinations having been Japan, China, Italy, New York City, Washington State, Provincetown, DC, and every place our military daughter has been stationed. The list goes on. I have a goal to visit a new destination, near or far, every year.
While we no longer have our real children in residence we do have a few furry children. Abigail is our sweet natured beagle mix. She is inside most of the time but does spend time inside our fenced yard soaking up the sun when we are away. Our two outside cat, Bucket and Francine stand guard over the porches and often present us with their prize catches.
We enjoy spending our morning coffee time out on the patio where we watch the gulls, pelicans and herons fish and play in the shallow waters. Our guests are welcome to join us!
