There is so much to do and see in the surrounding area, we are 10 mins from Battle Abbey, where the most famous Battle in English history took place of the Battle Hastings in 1066, the abbey has a new interactive centre, where you can read all about the Battle Hastings, there are many walks around the Abbey grounds, and the actual Battle field is within the grounds of the abbey, often hosting medieval festivals and live battle reenactments throughout the summer months, defiantly well worth a visit.
Also Bodiam castle with its moat, and beautiful grounds, also close by is Bodiam boating station, where you can hire kayaks or rowing boats and go along the river in one direction to Rye or the other direction to Northiam a great activity to do with all the family, my sons love kayaking up the river.
We are also 20 mins from Hastings old town, with many antique and curiosity shops, there are lots of restaurants, some selling locally caught seafood.
There is also a crazy golf course, fairground rides, amusements, and arcades, for a rainy day I highly recommend the smugglers adventures, Join notorious smuggler ‘Hairy Jack’ as he leads you through acres of underground caverns, passages and tunnels on a voyage back through time to the heyday of smuggling.
Also another place well worth a visit is Bexhill on Sea, with the famous Art Deco building the Del la Warr Pavilion, with many concerts, art exhibitions, a great shop, and also a cafe with a fabulous terrace overlooking Bexhill Beach.
If you want to walk to a local pub and get dinner we can recommend the Blacksmiths in Ninfield which is 5 mins walk up the lane. There are a few other really great pubs I can also recommend. There are lots of great county walks, we are 25 mins away from Eastbourne, with the South Downs way, & scenic walk up to Devils Dyke, also very close is the idyllic Sussex village of Alfriston.
If you have young children there is an amazing children's zoo / adventure park called Drusillas Park, with Thomas the tank engine train ride, and the famous meerkats, Penguins, and even Bats!!!! Eeeekkkk
Our Barn offers something for everyone, young or old, above all it's a set in such a beautiful part of Sussex, a hidden oasis down a quiet country lane, perfect for a relaxing family vacation.
