It is unfortunate that your experience was any less than perfect, I feel however that your comments are painting a picture which is actually not how things really went.
To respond to your points about your one Friday night stay:
-I was not there when you arrived: unfortunately I could not leave work a bit earlier as planned, however my father was at home to welcome you. I had also notified you beforehand via a text to your mobile (since it went on voicemail when I called) and had explained over the phone to your son who called me that same afternoon, he said there was no problem. You arrived at my house at about 18.00, not at 19.00 as you say. 19.30 is actually the time I ask guests to check-in, but I wished to be accommodating with you. I got home shortly after 19.00.
-The “ double” bedroom was not spacious at all: The room is exactly the same as the photo, it has a large chest of drawers and a desk too. Not sure how your expectations cannot match the photos of the room.
-No towels: the room was ready upon your arrival, however towels were in fact missing. I had not realized till after you went out later than Friday evening, when I then changed the bedsheets (since you used one as a towel) with new ones and provided a double set of clean towels. I also apologized for the inconvenience that evening upon your return with your husband. Should you have informed me that towels were missing upon my arrival at home, or calling me on my mobile if you were going to shower before that, there would have been no issue. You didn’t even mention anything before you went out that evening when I left you a copy of the house keys.
-Noisy park: I actually believe the area is very quiet. There are a couple of outdoor football/basketball pitches 350yards away by the leisure center, and perhaps someone was playing as you would expect on a summer Friday afternoon, however the house/room is acoustically insulated with double glazing.
-Breakfast: you came downstairs on Saturday at 8.30am, with suitcases in hand and went straight for the door (your son was waiting for you in the car) almost without saying goodbye. I was in the kitchen and had the coffee and table ready, and was about to ask how you wished your eggs cooked, before holding back from the abrupt circumstance. Please note, I don’t offer breakfast, but thought it would be a kind gesture since you were a senior couple
-Chaos in the lounge: there was a cleaner that came the previous day and the house has been tidy before, during and after your stay. In fact you walked though that same lounge when I gave you the house keys.
-Price paid: not sure what you intend with your comment of being upset for a certain £49 payment. For the records please note that I received £35 for your stay; that’s for two people, includes cleaning fee, and I had offered some breakfast too as a kind gesture and following your query. I would say that it was a good deal, considering that I rent the room on a base day rate of £40 for single occupancy and £60 for double, not including the £8 cleaning fee and certainly not breakfast. The fact is that you placed your booking pretty much as soon as I advertised online and had not had the opportunity to fine tune my advertisement.
-Number on the door missing: the house has actually what is probably the biggest door number in the neighborhood!
It is also unfortunate having to write such a reply, as I think that often a better communication would help addressing on the spot any issue that one may have. On your return on Friday evening, I had a brief nice chit-chat with your husband, who came across as a nice gentleman, while you walked in and instead went straight to the bedroom.
I wish you that your next AirBnB experiences are what you are looking for, and apologies again if the couple of issues with your stay were not mitigated to your satisfaction.
