Historic (1790) walled adobe hacienda 6 miles south of Taos Plaza. The earliest Hacienda along the historic Camino Real.
Historic walled adobe hacienda bounded by the original "Camino Real" and the gently flowing Rio Chiquito river. Exquisitely renovated and furnished. Each room has a candle burning kiva fireplace and its own entry to one of three private courtyards.
The oldest section of the compound was constructed of two foot thick adobe walls prior to 1790.
There was an influx of Spanish settlers at this time, migrating along crystalline steams flowing from surrounding mountain peaks into the Taos valley. The diminished threat of Comanche raids deterred prior habitation outside of the 1000 year old Taos Pueblo.
The Rio Chiquito area (now called Talpa) was included in the Cristobal de la Serna grant from the King of Spain in the 1600's. New Mexico trading expeditions to Mexico have a long history and were annual events in the 18th and 19th centuries.
In 1823, the adjoining Plaza of Rio Chiquito was formally established. A small chapel was built in 1828 beside the hacienda dedicated to "Our Lady of San Juan" in honor of the Jalisco Mexico shrine to the Virgin Mary. The beautifully maintained chapel was licensed in 1833 to hold divine offices (religious services) and is still in working use today. The original altar screen, painted by the sauntero "Molleno" in the folk tradition of northern New Mexico is prominently displayed. A formerly detached one bedroom casita with kitchen, living, dining area is now built into the outer wall of the hacienda served as a convent at one time.
The "Hacienda;s" open great room with a 20ft high viga ceiling and imposing kiva fireplace has an ambiance like none other.
The formal dining room with original brick floor and kiva fireplace leads to the hall from which all three bedrooms are accessed.
The three bedrooms and a den are situated privately from the main living area and offer quiet solitude. A steam shower and Jacuzzi adorn the large master suite with a king bed and flat screen TV. The den, adjoining the master bedroom, has a queen sleeper sofa and is perfect for sleeping two children or for a quiet getaway or movies on its large flat screen TV.
An outdoor grill and hot tub are easily accessible from all 3 units, still affording privacy from each of the units.. A massive outdoor wood burning kiva fireplace centers a covered patio with seating for the entire party.
The "Casita" (once the convent) has a large bedroom with a kiva fireplace and queen bed. The living room has a flat screen TV. and candle burning kiva fireplace. A small efficiency kitchen with soapstone counters and gas range is open to the dining and TV. area.
The "Art Studio" has been completely remodeled with a window wall overlooking a covered patio and large courtyard surrounded by latilla fencing (Aspen tree limbs) next to the river. This room accommodates two and has an all new bathroom with shower. Several skylights and a kiva fireplace provide an exceptional light and bright interior. A private driveway leads up to the studio's gated entrance.
The Hacienda is a "One of a Kind" Taos lodging experience and one that your party will remember and cherish for years.
Sleeping Arrangements: Sleeps 15: Main house sleeps 10, guest house sleeps 3, studio sleeps 2.

Check In: Check-in is anytime after 4pm. Check-Out is no later than 10:00 am so housekeeping can be ready for the next party arrival at 4:00 pm.
GUEST POLICY: Should there be more overnight guests (including children) other than number disclosed in contract (other than prior approved visits) my party will be required to immediately vacate the premises without refund and full security deposit will be forfeited. If a large party (7 or more additional guests) gathers without prior disclosure to Premiere, full security deposit is forfeited.
WAIVER OF LIABILITY: This property is privately owned & cared for. Premiere Properties is acting as Reservation Service only for use of subject property and is executing such agreement solely in its capacity as agent of and for and on behalf of Owner. For homes with hot tubs, I understand the risks of hot tub/Jacuzzi use, and recognize that for some people adverse reactions can occur, including but not limited to skin rash. Neither Premiere Properties, nor the Owner or their Agents will be held liable or responsible for personal injury, accidents, loss of life, valuables or personal property due to fire, theft, neglect, or any catastrophe or natural disaster which might occur at the above named property during the above stated time period. If this property becomes unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances I understand Premiere Properties will do all possible to move my party to an equal or upgraded option. Each of owner and guest may enforce their respective rights under the agreement only against the other party.
