Chalung House is a charming four bedroom premises two of which are available for your stay in Leh. The rooms have attached modern bathrooms with running hot water (solar) and are thoughtfully furnished for your comfort and convenience. There is a dedicated kitchen and dining hall. The innkeeper and cook is from Gurgaon near India’s capital New Delhi and lives here for his love of the region and to escape the extreme summer heat back home.

El lugar

The rooms available for your stay are in the right wing of the premises which has a direct view on the mountains. Of the two rooms one has a window on the extreme right end of the building and affords a direct view on Stok Kangri right from the bed. Outside the rooms is a warmly furnished corridor with chairs to enjoy relaxed afternoons and evenings in between your excursions during your trip in Leh. Ladakh is a resource scarce and ecologically fragile region, and hence we are ecologically sensitive and have a few house rules, nothing that you will find too hard to comply with and are the local household practice as well.
The farm stay is suitable for nature and cultural experience seekers who are looking for a non-commercial, quiet and comfortable lodging in Leh. It is especially suitable for extended stay travelers who want a home to come back to during their treks and explorations in Ladakh.
Breakfast is included in all packages and is prepared to your preferences with the only limitation being the availability of ingredients in Leh. The cook is widely travelled in India, Asia and Europe and hence has an extensive repertoire of cuisines and preparations for you to choose from. As the harvest season approaches from late June onwards the fruits and vegetables from the fields are extensively used in our preparations. Lunch and dinner can be prepared as per your requirements when needed and is priced separately.

Otros aspectos destacables

Chalung House is nestled between agricultural fields which the owner’s family tends to with a little help from the out of town innkeeper. They produce over 20 different vegetables with dedicated fields for potatoes and onions as well as wheat. There are over a dozen trees of different varieties of apples and two of the famous Ladakhi apricot which is considered among the best worldwide. The property has a direct and open view onto the Stok range of mountains with Stok Kangri, the highest summit right in front. Though just a five minute walk from the busy and popular Fort Road, the premises has a quiet and peaceful aura. It is surrounded by similar houses with large fields around. Shenam, the area where it is located is known for its vegetable produce which comes to market earlier owing to slightly warmer temperatures compared to the rest of Leh.

I'm sure this must be one of the nicest places to stay in Leh, and it is ideal for a base to have before and after a trek in Ladakh. It's pretty much as described in the text, but actually is so much more than that as well. It's very comfortable and remarkably quiet, so you almost feel like you are in the countryside , and you will be treated extremely well by Shivendra and extended family ( a Ladakhi family and some Nepali cooks). You will also be fed extremely well !! Shivendra has started an organic garden and is a real food enthusiast and excellent cook, and is in the process of setting up a kind of Riverside Cottage in the Himalayas, to experiment with beautifally tasty flavour and ingredient combinations, all served up in the garden under the apricot trees with the Stok mountains in the distance. If you like good conversation, excellent food, and a natural and peaceful environment with a sustainable twist, then you can't go wrong ! Highly recommended !

I had an absolutely terrific stay at Chalung House. Its such a pretty place, a brand new homestay overlooking a green patch of farmland with several apple and apricot trees and a breathtaking view of Stok mountain (URL HIDDEN) was a home away from home. My room was bright and cheerful and I had a gorgeous view of Stok Kangri from the bed itself! I watched beautiful sunrises and sunsets during my stay there. Amazing food courtesy and dining experience at Cafe TBQ at Chalung House. I loved the home cooked, delicious food served to me here. There is a farm to table concept of growing and harvesting the vegetables and greens and using them in the meals cooked. Moreover, the dining room has beautiful views, sunlight filtering in from large windows, magpies in the fields, apple and apricot blossoms, fresh green vegetables growing in the farm and the mountains in the background, almost like a painting. So peaceful, so relaxing. I enjoyed eating some of my lunches sitting in the garden surrounded by blossoming apple and apricot trees. So heavenly! The walk to the local market is a ten minute walk from this place and I was able to walk it each time. The staff at Chalung House was efficient and good. Moreover, my host was kind to organise my travel and stay for Nubra Valley and Pangong. It was my first time ever to Ladakh and I am glad to have stayed at Chalung house and experience Shivendra's hospitality and gourmet cooking skills. Its been a lovely vacation in Ladakh.
