Shocked! This review is both dishonest and untruthful and comes as a complete shock to us.
The only one thing guests mentioned to ourselves during their stay was a problem with the electrics and this was dealt with with immediate effect. Therefore we are shocked for many more things to come to light once they have left.
‘it is absolutely not a whole housing’
It is very clearly stated on the description of our house on airbnb that one room (room 4) is occupied as staff living quarters.This room is in the top righthand corner of the house. The whole rest of our home including kitchens, bedrooms, balconys, gardens, pool, and area surrounding pool are all for our guests to access. On one of our previous reviews it is also stated about the owner living in the property.
These guests have not read the full description about our home or read our reviews before booking and have now reflected this lack of research in a negative light back on us, which we deem to be extremely unfair.
We have done everything in our control to write as clearly as possible about what guests should expect when they stay here at poppy garden. It is not in our control that the guests instant booked without reading fully about the property.
‘The first two positive comments were posted by family friends’
We are totally unsure where this false information has come from. Our previous guests have been from Italy&India, Germany, England and other places around the world. As amazing as it would be to have family friends from all around the world this is completely not the case in this instance. Every booking of our property through Airbnb have been ‘strangers’ (not known us and we have not known them before their arrival). It is sad that this information can just be completely made up to potentially jeopardise our business in the future.
‘The kitchen on the first floor is not equipped enough to make a coffee’
There is a kettle provided as well as a cafetière. We also have coffee listed on the menu in our guestbook.
‘We were forced to go to the restaurant for every meal’
These guests stayed for 2 nights, one night they cooked a meal in the house. So clearly were not ‘forced’ to eat out. We provide a place for guests to cook meals as well as a menu in our guestbook where guests can order food to be cooked by our chef. These guests were not forced to eat out at restaurants , we are shocked that this has been stated in the review as it is very dishonest and not a true representation of our home.
As in many guesthouse or hotel the waters in the fridge are provided at a fee. On arrival we provide a welcome drink that comes at no cost. However for anything in the fridge the prices are clearly stated in our guestbook. There is also a shop a 2 minute walk from the property which comes at much convince to guests.
‘Electrical outlets do not work’
There was a heavy storm on the night of guests arrival which tripped the electrics box. This was fixed immediately and we showed the guests exactly how to fix it, if this was to happen again due to the thunderstorm. It also clearly states in our guestbook about how heavy thunderstorms in Asia may effect the electricity in the area and it is something unfortunately completely out of our control. What is in our control was however fixed immediately.
Ac units :
There are AC units fitted in each and every room in the house. We can provide photographic evidence of this to anyone who believes this review to be true as it is not. We do honestly hope this false statement doesn’t put anyone off bookings in the future. Please be reassured that there are fully fitted AC units in every room in the house.
‘There are cockroaches in the house and stale smell and humidity’
With our home being in the jungle and having such large verandas (traditional Sri Lanka style house based mostly outside) on rare occasions ourselves or guests may come across insects. We do everything we can to prevent this, our aunty cleans, sweeps, brushes and tidies everyday. We also provide insect spray, cockroach spray and coils to keep this to an absolute minimum. May it be a suggestion for these guests if they are visiting Asia again in the future to not leave open packets of crisps lying around as this is perhaps what attracted unwanted insects in this particular instance.
We have never had any complaints about ‘stale smell’ of the house in the whole time we have been renting. If this however was an issue guests could of easily told us as soon as they discovered ‘stale smell’ and we could of fixed this with ease. Also the air outside is humid, we cannot control the weather this why we have fully fitted ac units in each room for guests preference.
‘Gates so that dogs do not escape’
This review states the gates in the house are to keep dogs from escaping. This is exactly the opposite of wha we told the guests. We make sure to clearly tell all guests on arrival to keep gates shut to prevent our dogs from coming into the property uninvited. The gates were fixed purely our for guests benefit with their best interest in mind as we are aware some visitors may not like having dogs around the house. The gates are to keep the dogs OUT and not to stop them ‘escaping’ from the house as written in this review. Why would we try and keep dogs inside the house when they eat, drink, go to the toilet and sleep OUTside?
‘The two young people who live there do not pay any attention to you, almost no hello in the morning’
This is a complete lie. It is extremely sad that statements like this can be made up and such false information placed on our profile. As shown by our previous reviews we provide great hospitality and help out wherever we can. These guests were greeted with a good morning and questions about how their previous night was, at Poppy Garden we enjoy finding out about where our guests have been and if they enjoyed it so we can then suggest such places to future guests.
We also had many other conversations with these guests finding out where they are from, what their occupations are, what there future travel plans are and there favourite places they have been on holiday. It is such a shock for them to of written this on the review.
These guests really did seem like they enjoyed their stay, we had no idea of how unhappy they must of been, we only wish that they would of said something at the time so we could of resolved it all at first point.
Overall we are saddened by the dishonesty of this review and hope it does not put off future customers. We have broken down this review to prove that the majority of information that has been provided is fake. We do everything we can to make sure our guests have the best time possible, and treat our home as there own. We are available 24/7 for questions, to help people or simply help them choose where is best to have dinner without being intrusive and respecting guests privacy! Our owners are laid back, very friendly and extremely approachable young people who are willing to help in whichever way they can. We feel this is evident in our previous reviews and hope to keep up our reputation despite this review.
