Our home is located in a quiet neighborhood 20 minutes from downtown Portland, 15 minutes from the airport, and 20 minutes to the scenic Columbia River Gorge. The guest suite is a great base of operations for local hiking and skiing adventures and a rejuvenating retreat after a day of sightseeing in the city.
The guest suite is equipped with a private bathroom and bathtub. There's a small fridge, microwave, tea, and dishes. Binoculars, bird identification book, board games, puzzles, and coloring book with pens are available for your use. You're welcome to borrow our Northwest Forest Pass (needed to park at some trail heads) for the day if we aren't using it.
Private separate access to your suite is via a strolling path of gravel and stone along the side of our house to the garden. An alternate entry is also available through the house front door. Please let us know if you wish to discuss the use of this alternate entry.
Our house is shaped like a lucky horseshoe. :) The Airbnb suite is at one end of the horseshoe, and our bedroom is at the other end of the horseshoe. The garden and patio fill the horseshoe. The Airbnb suite has windows (with curtains) overlooking the garden and a small outdoor seating area. We share the large back patio, garden, and hot tub. Our living/dining room (off limit to guests) is at the base of the horseshoe & also has windows overlooking the garden. We have rice paper privacy screens up when we have AirBnB guests.
If you want to open the door where the guest suite attaches to our house you are welcome to invite our kitties to come snuggle and play.
The shower Alec and I use is 18 feet down a hallway from the guest suite (you have a private bathroom and bathtub as part of your suite). There are two additional rooms on the wing where the guest suite attaches to our house; the room next to your suite is now available as an Airbnb space so that guest parties of 3-4 people can book two rooms (this second bedroom is only booked in conjunction with booking of the guest suite). The room next to the add-on Airbnb bedroom is our office/spare bedroom.

Oh my gosh the salt water hot tub is right in the midst of our Japanese garden! The hot tub has massage jets that feel amazing and rainbow lights if you are in a rainbow kind of mood.
Feel free to stroll our garden. Various seasons of the year the garden is abloom with violets, magnolias, flowering quince, irises, daffodils, azaleas, rhododendrons, peonies... Hummingbirds, flickers, chickadees and a woodpecker are among our garden visitors. The garden provides several quiet spaces to rest and relax.
There's a covered patio with a table and chairs right outside your door and folding chairs you can move to a special spot in the garden.

The patio, garden, and hot tub are shared spaces between us and our Airbnb guests. That said, for guests wanting a private experience just let us know; we have flexible work schedules & can do garden maintenance or soak while you are out sightseeing :) We absolutely want you to have private soaking & garden time if you want it!
While we are happy to be totally hands off for guests who want that, we also enjoy being available to provide recommendations and ideas. And, if you want to hang out over coffee or a snack on the patio please let us know, and we'll join you if our schedule allows. :)
We tend to be pretty quiet people when we're at home who occasionally have a friend or two over for dinner, crafting, or a soak. Our home is our sanctuary and we want the Airbnb to be a sanctuary for you, too. Folks often describe our place as healing and nurturing.

- We live in a quiet neighborhood and ask that our guests be mindful of this while in our home and garden.
- Please please please do not let the cats outside. There have been coyote sightings in the neighborhood at night. Please do not leave the door to the garden open unless your door where the Airbnb connects with the house is closed. Thank you!
- Please wear provided outdoor slippers or your own shoes when walking to and from the hot tub; it helps keep the blossoms in the garden and out of the tub :)
-Please no smoking of tobacco, marijuana, or anything else on the property.
- Use of washer & dryer is for guests staying 3 nights or more. If you are here for a shorter stay & need to do laundry, check out Spin Laundry Lounge: a laundromat/hangout with classic arcade games & pinball, cafe & food and more in a fun neighborhood.
- Please let us know if there's anything we can do to improve your stay! We look forward to hosting you. :)

Hello and Welcome! My spouse Alec and I look forward to hosting you in Portland, Oregon.
When I'm not adventuring, crafting, or gardening I'm a social worker with a private practice here in Portland. I also love teaching English as a foreign language and interacting with people from all over the world. I've lived in rural Japan; Ghana, West Africa; and Bretagne, France over the years. I speak some Japanese and French and am happy to host guests who are limited English speakers.
I enjoy cultural festivals and events, nature, hiking, cross country skiing, kayaking, reading, exploring, and eating! I love to spend time with family, friends, and cats around the globe.
