The apartment was clean and as advertised. The neighborhood is very pretty and so great for kids -- it really is pretty much a 10-minute walk to the zoo, and we were happy to discover that DC Metro stops have elevators (so much easier with a stroller). Praveen set up a pack-n-play and a big air mattress for my daughter and my son, so it was very easy for us when we arrived. Be aware that it is a basement apartment, so it is dark (fine with us) and you can hear footsteps from upstairs in the morning (not a problem for early risers, but something to be aware of if you like to sleep in). Overall, we were happy and this was a nice, economical base in a great neighborhood.

There are things about this place that are really good. But there are things about it that didn’t work so well for me, especially as a longer-staying business traveler, so my 3-star rating reflects how well it fit my purpose and expectations of the Business Travel Ready label. The good: The bed, for example, is fantastic, really comfortable. One of the better beds I’ve slept in, to be honest. The towels are great, the shower works well. The washer/dryer, which are semi-accessible (they’re in a storage area behind the apartment, so the hosts understandably keep the door locked by default) are great to have. The Internet works well, so if you’re coming from abroad and don’t have a US SIM card, you’ll be fine. And the neighborhood is beautiful. You’re in hills right above Rock Creek park, all trees and 19th-century row houses. It’s about a 10-minute walk (5 if you’re me) to the Green Line on the Metro. The less-good: On the whole, the place is rather worn and, as a result, it feels pretty jury-rigged/improvisational. A few small changes notwithstanding, I’d estimate that the last serious renovation was at least 15-20 years ago. It shows. Many of the issues are pretty minor and not that hard to fix. The kitchen faucet’s pretty leaky. I had to rig up an extension cord so the table could be used as a desk. The toilet’s wobbly (needs reseating before the wax gasket gets damaged). There’s no outlet near the air conditioner so it runs on another long, drape-y extension cord. (Which is ungrounded, posing something of a safety risk.) More on the air conditioner. It’s powerful, but it’s in the living room -- as far as is humanly possible from the bedroom, where in a D.C. summer you need cold air the most. I found that if you turned it off when leaving in the morning, it’d take at least 1 to 1.5 hours in the evening to properly cool the bedroom off. So it works well enough, but requires a bit of planning. A couple of the problems are inherent in English basement apartments and are just a bit more extreme in this case. The ceilings are low, with beams that are really low; I’m 6’2” and just barely cleared a couple of them. It gave a slightly claustrophobic feeling. The neighborhood’s lush, mature trees, super-charming at street level, mean that apartment gets even less natural light than similar ones I’ve stayed in (granted, that also means the place doesn’t really heat up during the day -- it just gets humid/stuffy without the a/c). Timber-frame construction allows for little sound insulation; when the hosts were up at 6:30 a.m., so was I (and I’ve worn earplugs to sleep for about 10 years now). The kitchen is enough to get by -- flatware and dinnerware for four, a brand new microwave and toaster oven (oh, and rice cooker, surprisingly), plus drip coffee maker. Pots, pans, and utensils are a slightly odd...

Great communication the whole time. We arrived really early in the morning and Praveen allowed us to keep our bags in their house till check in. This allowed us more time to explore the city without lugging our bags around. Totally recommend staying here!

Had a very nice stay at Praveen's Airbnb. Was in town for a friend's wedding, and really only needed a good place to crash at night, as we were going to be out most of the time during the day. A few things to note about the apartment that aren't obvious from the listing alone: - Located in the basement/bottom floor of a brownstone (not sure what the DC equivalent is to a brownstone), so apartment can be quite dark. In addition, the floors are pretty thin as you can hear every footstep of the neighbors - There is AC but it is a window unit located in the front of the apartment. This means the back of the apartment, where the bedroom is located, doesn't really feel the cool air and can get quite hot. There aren't any standalone windows in the bedroom (save for in the bathroom and as part of the doors) so you can't open a window to get some fresh air either.

We had a wonderful stay at Praveen's place. He was very responsive and kindly put out an air mattress and packnplay out for us. Our group enjoyed the spacious English basement. And we appreciated the kitchen for toasting a bagel in the morning to enjoy with coffee. The location was wonderful for visiting friends in the neighborhood and a trip to the zoo!
