This rustic and comfy cabin is in a clearing in the woods where ravens and eagles are neighbors. A wall of windows look out over peaceful and private woods and skylights scan the treetops to an open sky. Behind the bamboo fence about 150 feet is the yard and main house. Across the road only a few minutes away is Shark Reef Sanctuary, a 45 acre county park with walking trails through old growth woods to the ocean and views of the Olympic Mountains and other islands.
I first built the cabin in the summer of 1981, basing the design on what I could see of barn board and batten construction. The post and beam style has hand peeled poles, rafters and BIG windows and skylights . Many upgrades to ensure comfort have happened since then! Guests easily relax into vacation mode and find the cabin atmosphere soothing and nature right out the front door.
A pleasant dining area beside large picture windows is flanked on one side by bookcases and the loft access stair, and on the other side by a cozy woodstove and seating area. There is an oil heating system for coziness no matter what the weather as well as the wood stove (wood supplied) for additional heat and ambiance.
The kitchen has an under-counter refrigerator, and is fully supplied with table servings , pots and pans. There is a full size stove and oven, water purifier, and toaster oven and a coffee machine.
A bright loft area is accessible by ships ladder. Upstairs under the skylights is sleeping space for four in two queen sized beds and an extra mat for single sleeping. Towels, sheets and blankets are provided. The beds are separated by a wall, but there is minimal audio privacy in the loft area. The loft has great views of tree tops through large skylights over the beds. KIds often feel it is like being in a tree house–and everyone enjoys spotting ravens and eagles flying overhead in the sky.
You can look forward to a hot shower with a view. And there is a separate toilet room where you can shut the door and be totally private.
This cabin is a sanctuary from the business of daily life. There is no internet connection and cell phone connection depends on your provider. However, there is digital communication available throughout the village. Many games and a library of books are provided for your self-entertainment and, of course, you can walk out the door and be enveloped by nature-the most healthy, and sometimes most surprising, of all entertainment.
Two bikes are on site andavailable for guest use. Bikes and kayaks can be rented on the island.
