Ubicación fantástica

Our unique Flax Pod cabin is a repurposed shipping container with cool views of Golden Bay. It suits a couple, has a queen bed, sofa and basic kitchen facilities. Bifolding doors open onto a deck where you can totally relax, enjoy a cold beer and soak up the sea views. Its in a great location and a great base to explore Golden Bay from. Enjoy getting back to the basics, dozing in a hammock, a friendly weka or two and a spectacular night sky.

El alojamiento
The Flax Pod cabin is a converted shipping container and although pretty basic and very diy, it is warm, comfortable and in a cool location. Its a bit like glamping with its basic kitchen facilities, hot outdoor shower and composting toilet. The kitchen has a fridge, toaster, jug, double stove top, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery - you should find everything you need. There is no microwave or oven.

We are trialing a home made wood fired hot tub! It is just outside on the deck and although not flash it is private and amazing at night to soak in and gaze at the stars. Just bring a small box of small wood/pine cones if you fancy one.

The views from the Flax Pod are pretty awesome. You can see over the ocean out towards Farewell Spit and into the western ranges. It is on a newly purchased property which we are regenerating back into native bush. We are still in the early stages of landscaping. It is usually quiet and peaceful, although we do have 3 kids being kids. You are free to wonder down to the stream area where the native trees are restoring and where, along the stream edge, you can see glow worms at night. Our family home is close by but you have your own space and we won't disturb you.

If you are here in the winter months and fancy an evening sitting around our wee fire pit gazing at the stars while toasting marshmallows, bring some small firewood or grab an armload of drift wood from the local beach. Please note the fire pit is not available from spring to autumn due to fire risk.

Acceso para huéspedes
Park your car up on the gravel carpark platform to the left of the cabin. Just be careful when reversing out the next day.

There is a garden platform down in front of the container and a grassy space you can use if you fancy. Here you can pitch a tent or park campervans if you are in a bigger group.
You are also able to walk down to the stream and camping area, and wonder through the bush where we are developing paths to some glow worms and our Nikau grove. During the summer holidays there may be other guests in campervans parked in this area.

Otros aspectos destacables
The toilet is a composting toilet that uses sawdust and wood chip rather than water. It is easy to use and doesn't smell. It has a urine diverter and men need to sit which is a little unusual but don’t freak out, it works well.

If you are part of a larger group we may be able to accommodate others. There is space for a couple of tents in front of the Flax Pod or down by the stream (a sort walk away) where there is a caravan, tent spot and 4 camper van parks. There is also a hot outdoor shower, toilet, water and camping kitchen area down there.

Enjoy a wifi, TV and device free stay with us - a rare thing these days. We do not have wifi available or a TV but if you really need to, your mobile phones and devices should work on the limited signal we have in this area. Just be aware you are in a metal box so phones and internet signal work best outside on the deck.

Quiet neighbourhood shared with local people and local wildlife. It has stunning views in every direction and the valley is clad in trees. A very special place with lots of birds such as kea, kereru, weka, tui, bellbird.

We have 7 kea living in our valley which land on our property and the cabin from time to time. While we love these colourful birds, please do not feed them and gently encourage them away if they start vandalising the cabin.

We also have a flock of 50+ kereru so if you’re a bird lover bring your camera.
