Friesland Cottage is a beautiful Cotswold stone cottage, dating back to the 1700s, which is located on the edge of the picturesque Cotswolds village of Shilton, and surrounded by stunning countryside. Shilton is well known for its attractive ford across “The Shill” brook, its open village green and its pretty stone cottages, all of which are much photographed and provided the setting for the Old Forge in Downton Abbey. The village also has an award winning pub, The Rose and Crown, which ensures that Shilton provides a true Cotswold experience. The beautiful market town of Burford is just two miles away and can easily be walked to across the fields from the cottage, and the many other lovely towns and villages of the Cotswolds are all within easy reach, as are famous places such as Blenheim Palace, Oxford and Cheltenham. London is also easily accessible by train or car.

Friesland Cottage is a Cotswold stone semi-detached property located on a quiet road, on the edge of the peaceful village of Shilton. The front door opens into a large, welcoming hallway, with a wood burning stove and flagstone flooring, which leads through to a well laid out ground floor area:
Living room: This elegant room provides a wonderful relaxing space, with stylish wooden floors and a fireplace containing a wood burning stove. There are comfortable sofas with seating for eight, a SMART HD TV with DVD player, and a SONOS multi-room player;
Kitchen, dining and sitting room: A fabulous sociable room for cooking, eating and relaxing, which looks out over the back garden. The contemporary kitchen contains a large island and double sink, and comes very well equipped, with a large Aga with a four ring gas hob, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge, freezer, wine fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave and coffee machine. The dining area has French doors leading out into the garden and contains a large dining table that comfortably seats eight. There is an additional sitting room area, also with French doors out to the garden, which contains a comfy sofa and armchair, together with a SONOS multi-room system, a SMART HD TV and a DVD player;
Cloakroom: Contains a toilet and a wash basin.
Wooden stairs with a handrail lead up from the living room to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms:
Master bedroom: A substantial dual aspect room, with a vaulted ceiling, wooden floors and views over the open countryside, which contains a double bed and a SMART HD TV. There is an ensuite bathroom, with a roll top bath, separate digital walk-in shower, wash basin and toilet;
Bedroom 2: Another stylish room which contains a double bed;
Bedroom 3: This lovely light room contains two bunk beds, which are large enough to accommodate adults;
Family bathroom: Contains a bath, toilet and wash basin.
Heading out through the doors of the dining area and into the garden, three steps lead up to the annexe, which contains:
Bedroom 4: A beautifully presented room with wooden floors, which contains a double bed and a SMART HD TV. There is also an ensuite bathroom, with a walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin.
There are beautiful gardens at the front and back of the cottage, which primarily comprise of lawns bordered by fruit trees and flower beds. There is a large table in the back garden with seating for eight, a charcoal barbecue, outdoor games for children, and a croquet set. Just outside the front door of the cottage is a magnificent old well, which is securely covered. There is a driveway in the front garden, with parking space for up to four cars.

Instant booking restrictions
This property is instantly bookable, subject to the following restrictions:
Short breaks: We can only accept breaks less than a week long that start on a Friday or Monday;
Weeks: We can only accept week long bookings commencing on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Friday and Monday are the preferred options;
Special events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day;
Short notice bookings: For bookings commencing within 7 days of the booking date, we have to seek confirmation from the property owner that they can accept the booking, before it can be accepted.
In addition to Airbnb’s terms and conditions, any bookings made for this property are made on the basis that you agree to the Booking Conditions set out on the Character Cottages website. Please type “Character Cottages Booking Conditions” into your search engine to find and review these conditions.
A security deposit of £250 is payable, which is returned after the letting period, subject to an inspection of the property. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival. In the event that the owners, or their appointed housekeepers, have to spend additional time tidying up after your departure, then the cost of this extra time may be deducted from your security deposit.
The maximum occupancy of the property, including its grounds, is eight guests, at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than eight guests at the property.
Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by one additional infant.
Regrettably, pets are not accepted.

Bed linen and towels are provided for guests.
Arrival and departure times
Arrival time is after 4pm and departure time is by 10am. Access is via a key safe, therefore it does not matter if you are arriving late at night.

The property has a gas central heating system.
Electricity and gas are included in the rental price. An initial basket of logs is provided for the two wood burning stoves and further log supplies can be purchased locally.
The property has free wireless internet access, four SMART HD TVs,a DVD player, and a Sonos multi-room system.
There is no telephone at the property.
Mobile phone reception is generally good.
The property has private parking space for four cars.
Where a letting exceeds nine nights, a mid-stay clean, bed linen and towel change may be included in the price. Please check with us to confirm. Additional housekeeping services may be available on request.
Child friendly facilities
A travel cot (without linen) and high chair are provided.
A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, toilet rolls, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay.
Accessibility, health and safety
There are relatively steep wooden stairs that lead to the first floor (however there is a handrail), which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, or carrying babies, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the house in the event of an emergency.
The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.
No smoking is permitted throughout the property.
In order to provide you with as much detail of our properties as possible, we sometimes use wide angle photography, which can make certain rooms, or spaces, appear larger than they actually are. Wherever possible, we try to include a floorplan, with detailed dimensions of rooms and areas.
