Tasmanian Architect, Misho + Associates.
Premaydena House began as a balsa model, expressing ideas of lightness, simple modular proportions, screening and layering to inspire the house. To address issues of summer heat, winter cold, wind, the house is ‘a box within a box’; to address the clients’ request for two bedrooms with ensuites, separated from the living area, the house is ‘a box beside a box’. The house is highly visible due to its external orange metal panels, colour matched to the region's fiery lichen and indigenous waratah shrub's bright flowers. "There are times when something needs to blend in, and times when it needs to stand out. The wilderness has color; that’s how everything works in nature. I love using it because it invigorates people", says architect Misho. The panels slide open to reveal a two-stage, private core. Windows align perfectly with the parted panels to access north views across Norfolk Bay.
