Originally, I re-designed the third floor for my family. It has direct access yet is integrated for safety and convenience. Excellent for business travelers: before Airbnb, I had three (from Germany, Spain, the US) each stayed over a year. The totally equipped over 700 sq. ft. space is great for couples, solo adventurers, writers or business travelers. Colonial Chimalistac, between Coyoacan and San Angel, is near the National University, and you can walk to restaurants and shopping centers.

As you climb up the winding staircase and walk in, the light, the surrounding trees, the terrace is what hits you first: it is mostly windows and wood - floors, beams, tables, windows all around. Second is the comfort and attention to detail: for sleeping, for eating, for working - writing, for watching movies or listening to music, or having friends in. Our colonial Chimalistac is a quiet "small town", surrounded by a bustling city. Our street was a river until 1968 when it went underground in tubes. An occasional eagle still flies down from the mountains, and when it rains the river still remembers its "bed" as it rushes by.

You have your own floor. You have everything your need. It´s the best floor in the house. There is space for your car in the garage that you walk through to go upstairs. Every need for comfortable, pleasant living, had been considered. The kitchen is complete, the bathroom is warm with towels and bath mats. In front of the large, king-size bed is a desk in front of a window looking out on the garden below. The TV swirls so you can see it from your bed, or from the small couch and coffee table next to it. But, where you may choose to spend most of the day, if you stay home, eating, working, sunbathing, is on your private terrace.

The bathroom and shower are done in black marble and polished wood. (Black marble is not a good choice because it stains, we found out as time went by.) The bathroom is washed and disinfected after each guest leaves. I will make maid service obligatory, so the shower is scrubbed each day, which does not happen if they guest does not require it.

The space was perfect...there was a lot of light, all the conveniences of an apartment including privacy, proximity to grocery stores, coffee shops, & eateries. The hostess provided suggestions & information when needed.

Beatrice's house is gem in the South of Mexico where a lot of cultural activities take place. The house is situated between Coyoacan and San Angel two of the most traditional neighborhoods in Mexico. The house is situated in the third floor of the building so you will have to take the stairs with 25 steps to the top. The house is just as it shows in the pictures with a lot of light all around. The apartment has all the essentials including a full equipped kitchen, living room; a beautiful terraza with patio furniture; nice bathroom with a bath tube ; tv, stereo and a huge King size bed. There are restaurants and shopping centers near by and you can be in Coyoacan in a couple of minutes if you take an Uber or around 10-15 minutes if you decide to walk and enjoy the colonial architecture of the city. On opposite direction you can be in San Angel in a shorter time and enjoy many of the restaurants and cultural centers In the area. In the area, 15 min away by car in Xochimilco , it is the Dolores Olmedo museum which holds the largest collection of Diego Rivera paintings and sketches. Beatrice is a wonderful hostess that will try her best to make you feel at home. If you have a chance to strike a conversation with her you will learn some of the most fascinating details of the Mexican cultural activity. We enjoyed our staying at her house and are ready to go back there on our next vacation.

We were very fortunate to divid our time and stay in different areas of this great city and Chimalistac is definitely one that you should consider. Don't be intimidated by the distant from the more publicized areas. The city is immense but the metro is easy and faster than ground transport. Read for yourself about the many attractions and events in and around Chimaalistlac, San Angel and Coyoacan. We just scratched the surface. Beatrice's home is central to everything that you will want to see here and is located in a very historic area of tight, winding, quite cobblestone streets. The penthouse is so much more than we expected and the few photos on the Airbnb website do not do it justice. Beatrice was an accommodating, engaging hostess who freely offered advice and assistance. We had a great stay!

Respuesta de Beatrice:
Wonderful meeting David (father) and Grace (daughter) from New Orleans, who stayed too short a time. Considerate and respectful as guests - intelligent and interesting as people, am looking forward to having them back. Their enthusiasm and wonder at Mexico and it´s culture added to our rapport, as much as talking about current events in the U.S. (I have written my response twice - if there is some confusion about getting it on line.)

This place is a gem! (as is the host). The apartment is in a secluded and exclusive neighborhood and yet close to some of the most interesting restaurants, shops, and cafes in the city. The apartment has its own entrance and so you can come and go as you please. The apartment is full of light, pretty, and comfortable. The bed is very comfortable. The place is super clean. The balcony is full of flowers and lime trees and that overlooks a park. The balcony also has patio chairs and a table where you can sit and listen to the birds. The kitchen is well equipped (good cutting knives, pots and pans, toaster, blender, microwave, etc.) All this and within a 5 minute walk you can get to the metrobus, the metro, or walk around interesting neighborhoods. You care close to San Angel, Coyoacan, the UNAM, etc. Beatrice is a lovely host, so helpful and at the same time respects one's privacy. She knows so much about Mexico.

Beatrice's penthouse apartment is beautiful -- very comfortable, nicely furnished, and well equipped. She is a gracious host and I was delighted upon my arrival that she had snacks and even a couple of beers in the fridge!!! The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet, yet close to shopping and public transport. I enjoyed walking around the shady cobblestone streets of Chimalistac and looking at all of the beautiful architecture. It is also very safe. Beatrice will provide you with a list of nearby points of interest, restaurant recommendations, museums, etc. I highly recommend. Thanks again Beatrice and Isabel.

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION (SIGUE ESPAÑOL)
I worked in Mexico as an art book editor/designer for 25 years and know much about Mexican culture and have loved this country. My best languages are English and Spanish, but I also speak Latvian, some French and as a child spoke German. For the last 23 years I have been the Latvian Honorary Consul in Mexico and have a broad experience in hosting people. I like people – all people - and find that our life is made rich through diversity. The space I offer is the third floor of my house (some 200 sq. mts. with direct access) that was designed and furnished by me for family use. (Please check out the photographs.) It has been called “unique”, comfortable, completely equipped, with wonderful light and a large terrace with an extraordinary tree-top view. At the present I live alone with my housekeeper Isabel, who has been with me for over 30 years.
It is suggested that I name five things I cannot live without. Perhaps the only thing that comes to mind is my morning coffee. Otherwise, “adaptability” is a key word in my life. My travel destinations are mostly Europe and the United States. Presently, I read little because I am working on a novel. Movies are my passion since I was a child in New York; shows I go to rarely, but music I love – everything from Opera to Garth Brooks, when he was still singing; food, I prefer fish to meat, anything green, eat tortillas but no chiles, love deserts and keep to champagne and tequila. As a host – I will greet you and we will have a long conversation, get acquainted, and speak about your special interests in visiting Mexico City. There are four pages of suggestions, in English and Spanish, with phone numbers and descriptions of where we are, how to get around, and what there is to visit, should you require that. Otherwise, I will respect your privacy, but will be available through , email, telephone, although we are one floor away. Isabel is here to help 24 hours.
AirBnB asks about a “life motto”, “… Study, work, be kind, respectful and keep smiling.” Life is an “adventure” my father said, after one revolution and two world wars.
