The room size is exactly what I wanted because I'm 6 feet tall and I usually travel with huge luggage. The personal ref is also another important perk. I also got a room with a good view of the kanda river so I got to watch seagulls and ducks every morning while eating breakfast. Oh and internet, air con, shower heater, all working perfectly. My only qualm is that the kitchen is quite small and is not appropriate to service the building's capacity of guests. It's actually quite beat up on a daily basis - not a pretty sight. Good thing there's microwave ovens on each floor and I saw that he has prepared a couple of spares lying around. In closing, if you're a behemoth looking for an appropriately sized private room close to akihabara station (7-10 min walk to the JR one) and doesn't mind eating out or taking meals home in most of your trip; this place is great.
The saying "you get what you pay for" applies to this property. If you do choose this property, there's no issue with the Room specifically, you will have issues with the Toilet room and the kitchen area. The toilet seat hasn't been cleaned in quite some time and feels sticky to the touch. The kitchen has been neglected and there is a strong odor present which I find to be unpleasant to say the least. Just bring cleaning wipes and air deodorizer with you if stay here.
what can i say.... if u can afford a few more bucks, don't stay here.. absolutely last resort if nothing else is available. the good - it's close walking distance to fun & food in Akiba. the bad - everything else. dirty rooms, shared bathrooms, kitchen, hallways. cluttered. this dorm-style building has not been cleaned or repaired for a long time. peeling wall paper, hole in neighbor's door, etc. i could go on but i wont. i must say the gentleman (not the host, apparently) that met with me was supernice and very apologetic that the key to my room could not be found. he even offered to treat me to dinner. not his fault this place is in such poor shape. i stepped out for a quick bite with my door unlocked while he kept an eye. if you're roughing it on a budget, you might be ok here. if not, spend a few more dollars and find something different.
As the owner said himself, the building is a little bit run down. The apartment is on a third floor by stairs, so if you carry heavy luggage, have this in account. One shared bath and one shower for males and other for females on each floor. I never have to wait to use them because there are few apartments. Shared kitchen, too. It is a private room, spacious for Japanese standards and with a refrigerator inside of it. The bed is comfortable. Good lighting from the window. The location is very good, at walking distance of Akihabara. The price is right. Above all, because on that price range is hard to get a private room in Tokyo.
