A secluded hand-hewn log cabin deep in the woods in the Smoky Mountains near Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Perfect for a couple or small family.
Please read all of this info to make sure this is a good fit for you. We don't want you to be surprised by anything. Questions are welcome!
Our family built this cabin in the 1970's using 100 year old hand-hewn logs. We have spent many happy summers here, adding improvements over time. The cabin is nestled in the woods at the end of a single lane, mile-long private gravel drive. It is cozy and quiet, and the drive is great for walks. Only a few miles out of Pigeon Forge, but a world away from the hustle and bustle, you can go do the tourist thing and come home to peace and quiet, or you can just stay up here on the ridgetop and enjoy the birds and the squirrels.
The kitchen is fully supplied except for a dishwasher. There is a coffee maker, electric tea pot, microwave, range and oven, fridge, blender and all cooking and eating utensils. Also an outdoor gas grill.
A couple things we want you to be aware of before you book, so you know what you are getting:
The road in (and out) is a single lane gravel road up that has a few moderately steep sections. There is one other guest cabin and one private residence, where the property manager lives, on the property. We usually don't see each other, but from time to time you'll meet another car on the road. There are a number of turn-outs and spots where you can get by one another, but occasionally one car will have to back up (if its us, we'll be happy to). This is not uncommon in this mountainous area. If you take your time and drive slow, there won't be an issue.
The cabin has an open design, which gives it a lovely big feeling, but there are no interior doors except on the bathroom. Chummy!
The loft is accessed by a long ladder so please be careful! You can take the ladder down if you don't want your kids climbing up there. This is the only way up to the second floor where the three single beds are, so if you have small toddling climbers this might not be the ideal place for you.
This is a rustic cabin in the woods, and hence there are elements of nature that might impact your stay despite our best efforts. We have supplied critter-proof containers for your food and we have regular critter-clearing services. We ask that if you want to walk, you stay on the road to avoid forest dangers like poison ivy and snakes.
Bottom line: if you love the idea of a quiet rustic getaway in the thick of nature, you will love this place like we do. Welcome! If you're looking for a place to get wild and party like a rock star for a few days, our cabin probably isn't a good fit.
