Our place is a small lifestyle block (12 acres) in a very peaceful & quiet area. It is located 350 metres from our house. We have a mixture of very friendly pet & working dogs. We are close to beautiful walks and rivers good for swimming. Only ten minutes drive from Rangiora where there is all you need - cinema, shops, good cafes & restaurants, swimming pool, library, etc. Just 20 minutes from quiet beaches for relaxing evening walks, the perfect place to unwind and escape the fast pace of life.

El lugar

We are in peaceful surroundings filled with singing birds, mountainous views, grazing sheep & horses next door (available for riding at extra cost with my neighbour). This is a good opportunity to experience country living at a reasonable cost. You’ll love our place because of the tranquil environment, friendly neighbourhood, the outdoor space, cosy couch to lay back and enjoy a book or simply chill after a hot shower and toastie woodburner for cooler nights. The bed has dual electric underblankets to ensure a good night's sleep. We've just added a TV and DVD player in response to a few private requests. We have also successfully had wireless internet extension set up at our cabin - our password will be available for those interested.

This place was definitely the best out of several we've stayed at the past week! We had a nice place all to ourselves with great privacy. The hospitality was superb and very helpful. We bought a half dozen free-range eggs for breakfast. There's a stove, toaster, toaster-oven, dishes, kettle, and even a furnace (which we used). a great stay here and wish we could have stayed longer!

Thank you for your lovely comments - it was an absolute pleasure to have you both stay with us. Sadly, because of the rain, I didn't get to show you my beautiful dog walk, but maybe next time! You know where we are if you ever decide to come back to New Zealand - it's such a great place to live.

The place was as to be expected in a beautiful area in a countryside, but to be honest, after making 30+ AirBnB bookings in 7 different countries spanning 3 different continents and spending over 3 months in total with different hosts, communication with Diana was the worst I've ever witnessed. She had promised regular and prescheduled trips to town (that she has since comfortably removed from her listing as advertised previously). On the day we had previously agreed to make a trip to town she had suddenly changed her mind about going to the nearest town (17km away) to restock food (I was relying on her since I didn't have a car) because of cancellation of some football match of hers that she didn't communicate to me at all. That basically meant I was 17km away from civilisation and without any food left to eat. The only way of solving that was walking 17km-s to the nearest town and back (34km in total). Eventually she did agree to take me to the town, but for a price. That made a little uneasy and suspicious - so I packed my bag, cleaned the place up as best as I could given the time I had, left some non-valuables behind in garbage bags (that I should've probably taken out), payed her for the trip to the nearest down, and never returned. On the last evening when the booking was due to end, she sent me a message that I have to come back to her place and throw these bags away myself. She didn't accept my apology that I had a flight out on the following day, and even if I didn't, that would've meant spending more than a half of day getting to her place (and somehow hoping she would give me a ride back to the nearest town as well), so she expressed her disappointment in my behaviour in not tidying up the place (read: by taking three plastic bags out). Sounds like a soap-opera and it pretty much was, so take my advice with a grain of salt, but I will not recommend her to anyone.

I really enjoy having Airbnb and all our guests have been a pleasure but I am disappointed and shocked to receive this review. From the very beginning I suggested that a car would be advisable and Andrus stated that his friends were helping to organise this. A couple of days later when I offered to take Andrus to a local car hire company, he stated that he didn’t realise that a Driver’s Licence was necessary. He then arranged for his father to post his licence to our address – to date this has never arrived. As Andrus has travelled extensively, I would have expected him to be well aware of the requirements of driving in New Zealand and also the location of our cabin, etc, etc. This seems to have been the main issue for Andrus here. Regarding Andrus’ understanding of the travel arrangements, on our profile it states “10 mins drive from Rangiora”. We did offer at our convenience to take guests into town if “we were going” (we have had guests stay previously and up until now it has worked well). Since Andrus’ stay, the offer of travel has been amended accordingly. It was never advertised that we would drive guests at “their” convenience. When I took Andrus into town I had an appointment. I actually went out of my way and waited for him as it was raining. Regarding running out of food, the day before I offered to give him a lift into town, but he chose to decline this as he was “not ready and felt tired”. I have never once offered scheduled trips as Andrus stated, just as and when we were going into town. The “soap opera” trip was never actually finalised as I said that I would confirm if I was definitely going to town as it looked as if the football match would be cancelled due to rain, (as it was). However, I made an extra trip into town to take Andrus when he said that he had made plans for the “weekend” in Christchurch. I charged him $10 for fuel - had he taken a taxi, he would easily have been charged over $50. Andrus obviously did not plan to come back but never told me this. It would have been polite for Andrus to at least let me know. I was planning on calling the police as I had not heard back from him after four texts and I was worried about his disappearance. After five days, I finally got a reply late at night that he was flying out the next morning. I do charge a small cleaning fee but did not expect to find our cabin in such a mess. There were unwashed dishes left in the sink, supposedly clean plates with grease left on them, cooking fat splashed over the window, burnt electric hob marks (which took a while to remove), mouldy sweetcorn in the microwave, and apricot pieces left in an open bowl which could encourage mice. There were wood chips all over the floor (with a vacuum cleaner readily available), candle wax spilt on the coffee table, an empty wood box and some of his belongings left behind. None of my previous guests have expected me to dispose of their belongings or left the cabin in such sorry state. In response to Andrus taking half a day to get back here to tidy up and retrieve his belongings, North Loburn is just 50 minutes at the most from Christchurch, not half a day. Maybe Andrus should buy a violin to play his sob story about being left abandoned which was completely untrue.

Diana was a great host, the house was spotless and the location was perfect. Loved the farm atmosphere and being able to hear the sheep calling in the background. Just wish that we could have stayed longer than just the one night.

Great little place, very clean, quiet and comfortable. More homely than the pictures imply and good value for money, can be very warm with the wood fire going and not too many sandflies outside. Great little place for those wanting a bit of seclusion and to enjoy the local bushwalking from.
