Acerca de este anuncio

Gortavallig is a 200-year-old traditional stone whitewashed cottage, sympathetically restored to retain its original character and charm. It is set in over 100 acres of private land and accessed by a quarter-mile-long private road. It is a few minutes on foot from Glanmore Lake and has fine views of the surrounding countryside and mountains.

El lugar

The house is actually two cottages joined together. There is a small barn next to it which houses a utility and storage room. There are a few small stone out buildings. The cottage has been featured in various publications including the Guardian, Irish Homes and Interiors, 25 Beautiful Homes and has been used as a location for a photographic catalogue shoot for UK clothing company Toast. Having been restored to retain as many as possible of its original features while adding modern comforts, it does not have a shiny new finish and is more suitable for those seeking a genuinely rustic experience. There is a wood burning stove in the kitchen and another in the living room.

Disponible para huéspedes

The private road to Gortavallig leads you over a small bridge and along the side of the lake. You then go up a fairly steep hill where you go through a farm gate. After this gate you are in the land surrounding the house, over 100 acres of woodland and mountains...your own private terrain.

Atención a los huéspedes

You might not meet me during your stay but Dympna who looks after the house will probably meet you on arrival and will be nearby if you need any thing or if there are any problems. You will need to ring her a day or two before to give her your arrival time. I will also give you my number and email and am easy to contact.

Otros aspectos destacables

Many of our guests see deer and red squirrels. There is a standing stone and an old burial ground on the land. There is another wc behind the house. There is oil fired central heating and readings of meters for oil and electricity will be taken on arrival and will need to be paid to Dympna before departure. We would ask you to take bottles to the bottle bank in Lauragh and there is a €5 charge per bag of rubbish. There is also a charge for wifi. The nearest banks and supermarkets are in Kenmare and Castletownbere. There is an information folder in the house with useful numbers and local information.

We had a great time in Gortavallig! The house was very cosy and warm (open fire places) and we felt like home! Lots of things to do in the neighbourhood: Kenmare (charming village with tons of pubs), horseriding, Pedals and Boots, Ross Castle,... THANK YOU SO MUCH ! :-)

If you are looking for a lovely and very quiet place, in a great area, it is the place you have to choose. Very charming and well decorated old cottage in a very nice area. Beara peninsula has a wild environment and you are in the middle of it. Probably we will come back in the future.

We had a wonderful stay and very relaxing holiday at Gortavallig. Peaceful, quiet, serene, magical. The cottage has everything one might need and is beautifully decorated. The location is perfect for exploring Beara peninsula and other parts of Kerry and West Cork. We enjoyed having breakfast in front of the cottage every sunny morning, being visited occasionally by deer or rabbits, and loved reading by the fire in the evening in the beautiful living room. Jaqueline and Dympna were wonderful; upon arrival we were greeted with beautiful fresh flowers in every room and there was a basket with biscuits, tea cakes and locally made jam waiting for us. Definitely one of the best Airbnb places we have stayed at, most highly recommended! Thanks for everything, hope to be back one day...

The peace and silence we're priceless. A cottage in a beautiful green surrounding with magnificent views.Perfect accommodation for people who knows to appreciate this. Very good reception. Fresh flower and welcome basket with sweets. Clean house. Great housekeeper. The toaster was defect and just a little later we had a new own. What a service !!!. We surely want to come back to this unique cottage. Thanks Jacqueline and Dympna

If you'd like to get a taste of the quiet life, or just want a good base to explore the Beara Peninsula then I think you'll struggle to find a better location. It's off the beaten track but that's what made it for me and my family. The lake is beautiful and the views from the house are spectacular. I may just have to return!!
