Christophe and I have been using Airbnb when travelling for years with 100% great feedback on us as guests from other hosts. We've also been hosting for close to a year now and not received any negative (Website hidden by Airbnb) your comments are a first for us. One of our guests this year left a review stating how very private they found our place to stay at. Our listing very clearly states it's duplex accommodation and the hosts are living onsite in the other duplex. We agree with you, with this being your first AirBnb experience you probably didn't quite understand that interaction between guest and host are part of the experience, perhaps a hotel or whole house booking would have been more suitable for you. The Sunshine Coast has been experiencing a severe drought for many months and we have to water the garden at the back of your duplex or the newish plants and turf will die - we were not trying to peer through windows whilst watering, I am sorry you interpreted that as us watching you. When I tried to take you some herbs from our garden and you didn't want to take them and called your wife, we weren't trying to invade your privacy - just trying to be thoughtful. We've done the same for other guests and they've absolutely loved using our home grown fresh organic herbs and veggies if they are cooking in their apartment. Communication is the key to good Airbnb experiences. When making your booking your wife said you only wanted to use one bedroom, so I made up the bed in the main room as she requested. If you change from your booking request and want to use another bedroom, best to communicate that to us and we'll put sheets on another bed, instead of just using the 2nd bedroom's bed without any sheets on it. If you want to bring various goods from your storage container to our place to sort, wash and air, it would be courteous to at least ask the hosts as we'd want to make sure goods that were stored whilst you were living overseas didn't spread mould, dustmites or other bugs when bought onto our property. Hanging electric blankets and various other blankets on a shared undercover clothes line for almost a week, means your hosts can't use this shared clothes line during that time. In short misunderstandings won't happen if communication is open and clear. Sorry you are disgruntled that we had to ask for reimbursement for the dry cleaning cost to get the stains out of our sofa, however we believe we have been fair as we did not charge for the extra cleaning time to clean the apartment ( a first that our cleaner has had to go over her allocated hours) & 4 freshly painted walls had marks on them (photos provided to Airbnb) - however we didn't ask you for the reimbursement of one wall that had to be repainted after you left. After your stay it's been a learning experience for us not to take guests that haven't had past reviews. We now know it's best to go on the feedback of other hosts to see if proposed guests are a good match for us. Saying that we've had fantastic experiences with all of our guests to date so it's a real shame for us to have had a negative experience with a guest.
