El lugar

Nestled up a quiet lane and surrounded by acres of trees and lawns, this eminent, substantial three story home was constructed by Master builder William Mendenhall between 1843 and 1845. Nauvoo historians esteem it as one of the “three best preserved 1840’s Nauvoo homes” today and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places of the United States Department of Interior.
The Ellis Sanders House enjoys a tranquil and picturesque location, quietly situated near the Nauvoo State Park and surrounded by acres of trees, lawns, and seasonal gardens. The exterior walls are three bricks thick from material provided by master Nauvoo brick maker, Isaac Hill. The original limestone foundation is still partly visible.
Within view of the Mississippi River and Old Nauvoo, The Ellis Sanders House is located close to the Nauvoo Temple. Amenities include fine antiques, quality linens, queen size beds, loveseat, and Jacuzzi tub.
Several original Nauvoo Temple Stones are found in paths and steps. Brigham Young & Heber C. Kimball taught in the Parlor. In the Spring of 1844 Joseph Smith took refuge from his foes in the basement of the house. Original owner, Ellis M. Sanders was among Nauvoo’s most prosperous residents & “gave of his thousands to build up the
Kingdom” (Brigham Young at Ellis’s funeral c.1873)

Steve was a super host... good for a great breakfast and info about things to see around. It was a very pleasant experience. Nauvoo is a wonderful place to visit and this house is full of history on its own. Could not have asked for a better weekend.

This is a nice and clean historic B&B in Nauvoo. Steve is gracious and accommodating. The room we reserved was accidentally overbooked. We were put up on pull out couches in the living rooms. This was far from ideal but we made it work. We arrived late in the evening and it was too late to seek lodging elsewhere. I would have preferred that they contact us beforehand and given us the opportunity to make other plans. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here but I would definitely call ahead and confirm they have their bookings straight.

The Ellis Sanders House is amazing! Steve and Karen were warm and informative hosts, and breakfast was delicious. Our two young children were welcomed as well. The house itself is beautiful, and it's in easy walking distance of Historic Nauvoo. It backs out onto the state park, so it's very peaceful. Staying there was a highlight of our trip, and we couldn't recommend it more highly!

Everything went so smoothly during our stay. It was the perfect place for me, my wife and 2 teenage sons to relax after looking at all the historical sites! Very comfortable, lots of options for breakfast and Steve was incredible! Why would you stay anywhere else in Nauvoo?
