My place is close to local cycle & walking routes and the beach. You’ll love my place because of of how homely and cosy it is.
Calico Barn is a converted barn at Hemscott Hill Farm, a mere 2 minute walk from an amazing 7 mile stretch of beach, Druridge Bay.
Calico Barn was newly converted in 2016 and sleeps 18 people in a mix of twin, family and mixed bunk rooms.
Designed as a home from home with walkers and cyclists in mind it has a large cosy living area with TV/DVD and a wood burning stove with walls decorated with hand made quilts. A dining area and fully equipped kitchen mean you knock up a meal and eat inside, or make use of the garden available for guests. We even have firepits and barbeques available should you with to sit around a fire or take a BBQ to the beach.
All of our rooms have bunkbeds, but not your average ones. They are built in cabin beds with super comfy mattresses and lovely bedding ready made up for your arrival. We measured the beds against Hemscott's tall one, Phil, who is 6'3" to make sure they were a decent length. Each cabin has a reading light, double socket and USB charger so cyclists don't need to carry additional plugs. Naturally there is free wifi throughout.
There are twin rooms, 4/6 bed family rooms and a bunk room for those who want to share. This listing is for one of our 4 bed rooms, see other listings if you are looking for a 2 or 6 bed room or just a bed in our dorm room.
Rooms share access to 3 spacious and clean wet rooms.
A basic cereal / porridge is included and tea, coffee & milk provided but we have breakfast packs of locally sourced sausages, bacon, black/white pudding, eggs and beans available for you to order ready to cook yourself in the morning.
We are also starting to offer basic home made meals to weary walkers and cyclists. There is also a good pub called The Widdrington Inn 2 miles up the road who offer a warm welcome and good food.
A secure bike lock up with racks, key code and CCTV is next to the Calico Barn and we have bike wash facilities, a tinkering area (we're a farm, we can always help with a spanner!). And if you arrive soaking wet, don't worry we have a drying room available too and can even do your washing!
Calico Barn is also popular with groups and families who book out the space for gatherings and have exclusive use.
We know you might be arriving late, don't worry we will give you the codes to get in so you don't have to worry about timing.
Disponible para huéspedes
You will have access to your bedroom which is secured with a key code. All guests have access to communal areas and bathrooms. There are lockers in the drying room that you can secure with your own padlock.
Atención a los huéspedes
We have an office within Calico Barn and list our opening times on the door. As we are a working farm there is generally someone around to help you if you need anything.

Hi, I'm Alison and live at Hemscott Hill Farm with my husband, Phil and our Labrador, Tilly. You will probably see them both around, and my Dad who lives in the farmhouse.
We opened Calico Barn in 2016 as a tribute to my late mother who was a quilter and made the quilts that decorate the barn. Calico Barn was her quilting shop before we opened it as accommodation (and a milking parlour before that!).
When you stay at the farm you'll likely encounter our pigs, sheep, cows and alpacas, along with a few sheepdogs (please let us know if you're frightened of dogs, ours are soft as anything but we do appreciate that not everyone is keen!).
In the summer we're flat out with glamping and camping as well.
We look forward to welcoming you to Hemscott Hill!
