Overall, the listing description does not accurately reflect the space. Here are some examples: the unit is at basement level, which is not stated or visible in the description, and the listing claims "high ceilings", which is inaccurate. The ceilings appeared to be lower than standard. The listing claims "ample space", but the only way I would describe this unit is "cramped". One of the disappointments for us was the privacy—being at or below ground level isn't ideal in a city, and there were no curtains or shades on the door windows. Instead, there were removable magnetic curtains provided that had to be placed over the back and front door in order to block the view from outside. They have to be removed by the guest each time the door is opened because they would otherwise cause damage to the door frame (as specified by the house rules left around the unit). The window of the back door, which opens directly into the bedroom, has a direct view of the bed, and without the curtain, this is not private at all. In spite of this, the listing was described as "private".
This is in the southern area of Bloomingdale, and I do not hold the host responsible for our choice in regards to the location, but the crime data for this location indicates a much greater risk than in the northern area. I feel the price is over the high-end of the appropriate range for the quality of the space and for this area.
We chose this place over others that looked nicer because of Patrick's assurance that a specific health condition could be accommodated. From the moment we stepped in to this place, it was clear this was not the case, and what he had told us was untrue. I have booked with numerous hosts through Airbnb, and I can absolutely accept that it won't always be perfect. If a host tells me they can't guarantee their place is suitable for me and I decide to book anyway, that is my decision, and I will not hold that host responsible. However, with this listing, I was led to believe I would have no problem at all, but after arriving, it was obvious that I was just being told what I wanted to hear. This booking was worse for my condition than any other booking I have made to date. It's really too bad because we passed up other places where the host was less confident about the suitability, and they almost definitely would have been better choices for me.
This was not at all what we were expecting from the description and listing price, and feel there are better choices in DC within the same price range.
