This was the first night that we had in Bulgaria after flying into Sofia. The climb up to the chalet is quite a bumpy ride but once you get there you are rewarded with a view over the city and find your hotel at the foot of the mountain. The staff when we were there were very friendly and happy to help, allowing us to settle in quickly. It would be a great location for anyone who likes hiking with the summit only and hour and a half away and opportunity for longer hikes should you so choose. The hotel had a cosy feel to it, the only problem we had was the hot water not working the morning we left. Despite this it was great value for money and a nice escape from the high tempo of Sofia.

Hi Johnathan, thanks a lot for your review - it's quite motivating for us. You are absolutely right, the place is nice and relaxing, but we still have to do a lot more for the infrastructure and cleanliness. Thanks and wellcome.

A taxi was arranged for us from Sofia city to the Aleko Hut which was wonderful. Taxi driver a lovely guy. Upon entering the place however we were not greeted but rather quietly barked at. There was no hospitality here, everything felt like it was a chore to them. Now we are paying next to nothing, so when you get next to nothing, it's kind of understandable. "Passport" barked the wide eyed man, not looking at us. A slightly nicer man showed us up to our room. Three beds and a tiny heater. Please know if you are staying here it is Proper Basic. I was so cold even in the night of summer that I was wearing all my clothes including socks and a hoodie with the hood up. We went out to the mountain which is amazing and the location of the hut cannot be faulted. Returning before 8pm we saw they were eating themselves so went back to the room for five minutes making sure they knew they could relax as one of them stood up as if to serve us at the bar. When we came back down I asked for some food. "No." He then looked around in a mocking way as if to say "and there is no McDonalds here idiots". In the mountains without any food. Maybe we should have planned but I didn't expect dinner to be over at 8pm. Especially as it seemed we were the only ones staying. We asked for some snacks for our dinner then and he RELUCTANTLY dragged himself behind the bar and sneered his way through the options, staring into space, awaiting these two idiots to stop spoiling his evening. We sat at the lonely bar and watched TV for a while and asked if he could serve us some alcohol. I will point out he did serve us and was on hand to serve at all times, but we felt like a burden to them. We sent a message the next day asking if they could book another taxi for us back, and thankfully they did- in this they were good. Luckily the same taxi driver arrived to take us home and we shared a handshake and a wink of the eye; my expression said "Get me outta here".

Dear Adam, Thank you for your feedback. For us, the guest’s opinion is really important! Now let me explain also my point of view. As you mentioned I offer you to arrange a taxi for getting you up to the mountain and after some mails and messages to clarifying your location in Sofia and time that suits for you, everything with your transportation was OK. I think that shows somehow my engagement for our guests. Now about the welcome at the hut - there was my collegue Niki, who is quite fluent in English, and at check-in you were told if you have questions or some needs – just to ask. Also he has explain you that the self-service buffet works till 19:00. As the rooms we are renting are in the hut, we could not control the working time of the buffet or the bar, which are separate units. I’m really sorry for your cold night, but again if you have asked Niki, he for sure would give you another heater or some more blankets. As I have mentioned in all materials and as it’s seen in our gallery, the Aleko hut location is up in the mountins at 1 840 meters above sea level, which means that even in summer time at night is not warm ! So anyway, sorry about you bed impressions and feeling about our place, but it is as it is. For the matter of fact nowhere in the materials or photos of our place we do not give a false promises or еxaggerate the level or the quality of the rooms. Best regards, Ivo

I really recommend to go the Vitosha Montain, but if you need one room with minimum the comfort you have to find another place. I was so disappointed when I saw the room. It was dirty and so cold. The heater didn't work. I had been keeping in touch with Ivo and he was really friendly, but when we arrived there, we didn't find Ivo and nobody spoke English with us. Usually the payment is made by card with AIRBNB, But when we arrived there they charged us. We were charged twice for a freezing room !
