Ubicación fantástica

Built in 1907 along a beautiful stretch of the Rock River and surrounded by thousands of acres of State Forest, you will be in nature's paradise. Secluded, yet only 10 minutes from the quaint town of Oregon. Your stay at the cabin includes 60 acres of private land (+2000 state forest), river frontage, huge yard full of hammocks, firepit, BBQ area and a legit settler's cabin -rustic yet well appointed. 1-night stays are possible depending on calendar. Aug 30 - Sept 3 is priced for 4 people.

El alojamiento
"Rustic Charm" is an understatement on both accounts. Native Americans lived here until the 1830's, enjoying its protected woodlands and excellent fishing. The land was deeded to an early settler in 1855, and the cabin was built in 1907. Although updated with electricity, hot water and a kitchen, it remains rustic. It may be a great place to escape the hustle and bustle but there's no escaping nature here. Well suited for hiking, boating, barbecuing, swinging in hammocks, campfires and porch sitting. There's one bedroom, loft, a large common area, kitchen and bathroom. The bedroom has a full bed, the livingroom has 2 queen beds including the sofa bed, 2 day beds and a loft with 4 additional mattresses. Several hammocks are set up outside as well. Large lawn under the oak trees is ideal for pitching tents if you have a large group. There are several tents and sleeping mats you're welcome to use stored under the window beds.

Acceso para huéspedes
Upon reservation you'll get directions, entry codes and have exclusive access to the cabin, riverfront and surrounding woodlands. River access for canoe/kayak trips (White Pelican in Oregon offers rentals and shuttle service) and many miles of trails in the surrounding Lowden-Miller State Forest & nearby Castle Rock State Park.

Otros aspectos destacables
As you see there is no cleaning fee, as I have found that guests leave the cabin in very good order. It would be greatly appreciated if you keep up the tradition :) If there is a big mess left for me to clean up I will charge accordingly.
Cell service is generally limited to Verizon and US Cellular (AT&T is spotty) and there's no Wi-Fi.

Be aware that the river below can be very swift, especially with high water.
Please bring your own towel as too many have gotten lost or ruined on river trips.

If bringing a pet I asked that they are on a flea treatment prior to arrival. I haven't had a problem yet but certainly want to avoid it! Please keep pets off of beds and furniture and if they are diggers please fill in their holes. And obviously, please pick up their poop! Thanks

Ubicación

Oregon, Illinois, Estados Unidos

This is one of the most tranquil and remote locations you can imagine, bordering Lowden-Miller State Forest and a beautiful stretch of the Rock River. It's at the end of a windy road through the woods yet has electricity and pristine drinking water from an artesian well. Light traffic (Rt 2) can be heard across the river but it's muttled by the constant symphony of songbirds. A tallgrass prairie and wild bison preserve (Nachusa Grasslands) is 4 miles away and Oregon, Dixon and Franklin Grove are neat little historic towns with shopping, dining and a bit of nightlife. La Vigna is a sensational little Italian restaurant just down the road towards Oregon. Check out https://www.visitnorthwestillinois.com/ for a local events calendar.

I'm a bee keeper and curriculum developer for environmental programs. I grew up overseas traveling with archeologist parents and know the importance of treating travelers well. I live a few miles from the cabin on a small organic farm and love the Rock River Valley - be it canoeing with the eagles or simply enjoying a sunset. This old cabin has been in the family for generations, having been built in 1907. If the logs could talk...

My farm/apiary (Orion Organics) is just a few miles away so I'm usually available if needed. I can generally meet guests upon arrival to give an introduction of the cultural/natural history of the area, nearby sites, activities, explain where things are around the cabin and light a fire if so desired. Ask me in advance if you need fishing gear, canoes/kayaks or want me to set up some tents for you.
