El alojamiento
The Steading is on my father in law’s farm. Alex's farm is set in 100 acres of rustic farmland with a lazy river running through it. The Steading is private, next door to Alex’s farm house. Guests have exclusive use of the entire building and the front door is lockable with your own key. The scenery and tranquility is breathtaking and there's miles of unspoilt walking and off-road cycling.
It is detached and has two floors. Downstairs open plan living area complete with wood burning stove (no central heating - but the fire is better anyway!), kitchen area, table and chairs with a small toilet room and sink. Cold running water. NO running hot water - but there is a kettle for hot water. (Please note there is NO shower or bath in the steading).
** Guests should bring wood and firelighters with you for the fire ** these can be purchased at any supermarket or petrol station.
The kitchen area is very basic - kettle, plug in double hob, sink (cold water only), a fridge and a microwave. There are some pots, pans, mugs and cutlery etc there for you to use. There is no running hot water.
There is no shower in the Steading.
There are two handmade wooden single beds which can be pushed together to form a double. Basic bedding is provided - though it will be very simple and not hotel standard!
You will be staying on a working croft that has approximately 100 sheep and 30 cows. Alex lives on and works the farm and he would be happy to show anyone around the farm and help out with running of it if you wished to experience true Highland crofting! Alex is also an artist and oil painter and has taught art at secondary schools all his life.
Families - The Steading sleeps 2 in our description and because of coronavirus we would prefer people from the same household. Families with children or not from the same household please message to enquire to see if its ok to stay. It would be possible to sleep up to 2 adults and 2-3 children. Making it ideal for families as a bit of an adventure out of the normal city life!
You can be guaranteed a quiet holiday as there is no TV, no WiFi, no phone signal and the nearest shop is 8 miles (12km) away. You can get mobile signal 4 miles (6km) back towards Alness.

As this is a working farm there are definitely NO PETS ALLOWED.
Please bring along some home comforts if you wish - a hand towel for the bathroom, sheets for the mattresses. We don't regularly launder the bits and bobs of towels / blankets etc that are there as spares - so bring some of your own for your own comfort!
Also please be warned regarding mice, insects etc - this is a farm, and the Steading is a very basic converted building so there may sometimes be animal intruders in the building which we can’t really stop! So any food should be kept in sealed containers.
Lastly - we hope the Steading captures your sense of adventure and that you’d like to stay here! Check out our reviews from our guests to see for yourself what our guests think of it. It certainly is a unique place for a getaway!

Acceso para huéspedes
The Steading is in a glen called Strathrusdale, in Ardross which is a rural area in the Highlands of Scotland. It is 30 miles (48 km) north of the nearest city, Inverness, and lies 10 miles (16 km) inland from Alness.
The glen becomes progressively more mountainous as you travel along the road heading west into the centre of the Highlands. Strathrusdale is made up of a dispersed cluster of crofts (farms) and commercial pine forest and has approximately 10 houses over a two mile stretch. There's only one single track road for access that leads to Kildermorie Estate where there are good off road tracks only suitable for walking or mountain biking which go all the way to the West coast of Scotland.
The nearest shop is 8 miles (12.8km) away.
Remember to get anything you need from the shops in Alness or the 'Skiach Services'. This shop has a garage shop which has food essentials to pick up before you come to the property as there is only the bare essentials provided (tea, coffee, cooking oil, salt and pepper - everything else you will need to provide for your stay.)

Otros aspectos destacables
Currently we have certain restrictions due to coronavirus, please check Government information for Scotland as it is changing frequently. This may include restrictions on travel and facilities.

Alex will oblige and help with any situations while you are there - lighting the wood burner etc, although we would ask all guests to please adhere to the Government social distancing advice at this time - currently 2m.

If you are looking for peace and tranquility on your holiday then the center of the Highlands of Scotland is for you. This is a remote stay with only the noise of the country farm animals and the crackle of the wood burner!

You can go for hours before you will see a car. It also makes it the best location for walking and cycling.

I am a busy mum and wife - we have toddler twins! I am also a physiotherapist and run my own clinic and look after our two airbnb properties. I love food (especially seafood), sports, cakes and Scotland. Best holidays for our family have to be road trips and looking forward to having lots more adventures.

Durante tu estancia
Alex is happy to help with any questions or recommendations for things to do and see. He stays in the building next door and is happy to leave you to have a very quiet break or happy to chat and show you around the farm. He loves meeting new people.

He has been a crofter (farmer) and an artist all his life, he taught art at the local secondary school. He now farms and paints (oil on wood) full time and would be happy for people to stay on the farm and help with farming activities to learn about crofting. Or equally for guests to have no involvement with the day to day running of the farm and just enjoy the countryside.
