First of all, Joe was unbelievably responsive--he answered messages immediately, and answered the phone every time I called. He may have been in California, but he made absolutely sure everything ran smoothly for me! And he seems like a really nice guy! The apartment is very, very pleasant... The windows cover two or more angles, looking out onto the East River, and in the living room there is a mirror that keeps on extending the sense of space. The furniture is comfortable, and the bedroom not huge but way more spacious than the average bedroom in Manhattan. The view is beautiful during the day and gets even better by night. On sunny mornings, the apartment can get quite hot as the sun comes through all those windows... Fortunately there are these semi-see-through blinds that block the sun but still let you see a fuzzier version of the view, and they help a lot. And of course there's A/C on top of that. Joe had made sure the concierges were aware of my stay--one of them provided me with the key, and subsequently when I was asked who I was and I answered, "I'm Joe's guest from ," each of them immediately welcomed me. I even had some packages delivered to the building--everything was really easy! There are laundry facilities in the building--Joe had left his laundry card behind, so I could put money into it and do a wash. There is also a gym with a pool on the top floor, and the gym staff was really nice and when I explained who I was they made me a temporary member... I swam one day during sunset, which was brilliant as the view from the pool is west, facing towards the Empire State building, so I got to swim and experience a great view simultaneously. I had some trouble understanding the (not particularly complicated!) WiFi password, and Joe patiently and diligently talked me through that, and tried to get the cable company to fix the problem (sadly, the problem was me, but Joe was SUPER nice about that!) All in all, a lovely stay. One thing to consider, though, is that it's very close to the UN headquarters, so if there's a General Assembly meeting going on, it's probably more painful to get around the neighborhood. I was lucky enough to arrive the day after the GA meeting, so I didn't actually experience this, but it's something to keep in mind. I would very gladly stay here again, and hope I get the opportunity to do so!
