The house was pretty great for our needs. Likes: - In the house and on the back patio, the trees allowed for a real sense of separation from the surrounding houses. My wife and I live in the Bay Area, in a town where houses are built WAY too close to one another -- this was a nice break from that. It's not a huge plot of land, but it felt private enough to be comfortable. - The neighborhood is quiet and friendly. On dog walks every morning, people were generally nice. - Atascadero offered us a good central location from which we visited as far south as Santa Maria, and as far north as Cambria. Nothing was too far, and there were lots of options for things to do within a short drive. - Atascadero isn't a big city by any stretch, but the house is walking distance (~20 min) to a fun little area with a couple of restaurants/bars/tasting rooms. Nice for when you enjoy walking after a meal. - I'm not the type of person to pay much attention to decorating, but those in our group who had a more aesthetic eye were pleased with the decor. - Check in/out was smooth for us. No problems there. (URL HIDDEN)Dislikes: - If you go during the hottest time of year (like we did), the house doesn't offer much in the way of relief from the heat. There is a small A/C unit in the living room that does what it can, but it was pretty brutal some days. When it's 105 deg outside, those little A/Cs can't do much. - The house, in general, has a very cabin-style feel to it, which isn't necessarily a big negative, but I didn't get that impression from the pics and description online. The floors squeak in a lot of places, the furniture seems kind of beat up, and our dog was a little freaked out by the amount of deer walking around on the dry leaves at night. Honestly, not a big issue, just something I didn't really expect. After spending a week here, I think both my wife and I would happily rent here again.

This home is very cute and comfy to stay in. The kitchen is a good size, well stocked and easy to use. The back deck is very open and gives you a great view. We had practically every meal on the deck and it is a very relaxing place to hang out. Added bonus was the daily visits of deer that would walk by. The location is very central and easy to enjoy downtown Atascadero, as well as it is a convenient base camp for day trips throughout the area. I would mention the home can be a little too hot in the afternoons on hot days, but the beach is close to cool off, and it does cool off at night.

CAUTION!!! We arrived at the location about 4pm and there was no key left for us. Despite numerous calls to “T” we did not receive a call back. My family was in town for my brothers graduation from Cal Poly and we had brought our two dogs. We left after waiting an hour for a call and went to the beach. To our dismay, we had still not received any type of call several hours later. We had to contact Airbnb who could not help us get into the house, but did help start the refund process. (Side note: it has been 4 days since refund was agreed to and have not seen the transaction processed). However, we were now in a tough situation since there were not many options for places to stay given the graduation weekend in SLO and the fact that we had dogs with us. “T” could not even return a call to let us know what happened. We did hear a day later from Airbnb that the cleaning person forgot to leave the key. That does not explain why we were not contacted in a timely manner. Do yourself a favor and do not stay at this place. It is not worth the risk. You risk being stranded. The place is old, very small and the neighborhood is not the best – we saw one of the neighbors pull up and get out of his car with a beer in his hand. He was clearly drinking and driving. I am surprised that so many others made good ratings when we were left stranded on a weekend where everything else was booked.

Wonderful treehouse experience! Such a lovely place, and ideal for myself, my nine year old, and my parents and their little dog. It could get a little hot (temps were creeping up towards 100 during our visit), but cooled down quickly and stayed cool in the morning when we closed the windows and shut the curtains. Great hosts!
