This self-catering converted barn is set in the hills above the Wye Valley, close to St Arvans and Tintern. The property is one of four adjoining barns located in a very private area on a working organic farm. There are three double bedrooms (one with an ensuite), a large family bathroom, separate downstairs toilet, a large kitchen and cosy living room. The property is perfect for escapism - with plenty to see and do from the front door - combined with a feeling of being off-the-grid!

El lugar

The barn is our second home (we live & work in London) and we absolutely love the place, so we ask that you treat it like your own. It's a fantastic retreat from busy life, and a hidden sanctuary to connect with nature. If you want to stay in, there are plenty of board games, books, record player, etc, and a well-equipped kitchen for cooking. Or if you're feeling more active, there are more than 10 walks from the front door, and many more throughout the Wye Valley and Monmouthshire. Cycling is also recommended, particularly in the nearby Fedw Wood.
Situated on a working farm, you will see cattle and sheep in the fields around you, hear the cockerel in the morning, and find the sheep dogs occasionally looking for a stroke.
Beware: there is Wifi, but it is not very reliable - often slow, and occasionally drops out completely - so please do not count on it during your stay. If broadband is very important to you, then our property probably isn't suitable!
Also, as this is our part-time home, some of our personal belongings will be in the barn. All of our things are kept out of your way so it shouldn't be a problem for anyone, but please bear this in mind when booking.

Disponible para huéspedes

You will have the entire barn to yourself. There is parking for at least four cars. The key will be securely left and instructions will be provided for accessing the barn.
The farm has several official footpaths across it which are well-marked, we ask that you stick to these. It is a working farm, so please be aware of obvious dangers - do not wander into sheds, aggravate animals, and look out for tractors!

Atención a los huéspedes

You can be as private or interactive as you like. We are always able to take calls or reply to texts while you're staying. In the barn you will find a useful collection of recommended things to do in the area and a map of the local area.

Otros aspectos destacables

Penterry is the closest hamlet. It is a quiet, rural scattering of homes in the hills above the Wye Valley. Tintern lies at the foot of the valley about a mile or so walk from the barn. It is easier to drive from the village of St Arvans, which is about 10 minutes in the car. Local attractions include Chepstow Racecourse, Tintern Abbey, The Big Pit (Coal Mining Pit & Museum) and the River Wye itself for canoeing etc.

Please be aware that the barn is adjoined to other homes. We ask that you are considerate of our neighbours and do not make noise late at night.

We are not interested in letting the barn out long term, please don't ask.

We were really pleased with the house, well furnished, spacious, quality workmanship to the building. Great location, quiet, scenic, great local activities like canoeing and cycling. Communication with Rhona was excellent. Would definately stay there again.

Very well-equipped cottage in old barn conversion - warm and cosy but plenty of room. Loads of games, puzzles and a record-player so you can blow the dust off your old LPs. Well-equipped kitchen, good showers, what more could you ask for? No open fire but underfloor heating kept it warm. Gorgeous walking from the door in every direction, but easy to pop out for supplies.

Beautiful location with amazing views. Cottage was perfect for our weekend away with 6 adults. Well stocked for a chilled out weekend allowing us to cook there every night. Lovely walks down to Tintern & Wye Valley.

Rhonda's barn has stunning views and made a lovely home for our stay. The farm is quite remote but it's great for walks and easy to get everywhere by car. Her instructions made it really easy to find and even though it is remote, it made exploring the local area very accessible. We were able to walk down to the local village, Tintern - walking through the farm and down through the woods (25 mins) passing a derelict church along the way. You're greeted with the glorious view of Tintern Abbey at the end of the walk which is just wonderful. You can enjoy a cup of tea and cake at the tea rooms before you head back up the hill. We felt very welcome at the barn as Rhonda made some lovely touches on our arrival. We went to Symonds Yat Rock and Symonds Yat East - great walk and beautiful views. Forest of Dean - Syril Heart Arboretum - eat at the speech house pub The local pub at St Arvans is lovely and does a great ale called gin lane. The staff were lovely and very welcoming. They allow dogs and there is also a restaurant. It was less than 5 min drive to the pub. The Lamb family and Puppy Etta

The converted barn was beautifully done. It was really spacious, comfortable with great amenities. The views over the valley, even with the morning mist, was stunning. We had a brilliant stay. It was a great place for a family. Having the en suite room one side of the stairs and the other bedrooms and the family bathroom the other side gave our in laws some privacy, which was great We would love to stay again. Thanks also for the lovely treats also on arrival.
