Gabriela's house was a great place to spend our family & friends winter vacation. We chose it for its nice, big, secluded yard, where we had imagined our kids would have lots of fun playing in the snow. As record amounts of the white powder fell upon the town, building snowmen, our very own igloo, and sliding down the side yard, brought big smiles - and long lasting memories, I am sure - to they faces!
We were very comfortably installed in the house, which has 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms upstairs, and a bedroom and full bathroom on the main floor. The kitchen is very well equipped, and although the house has a nice dining room overlooking the yard, we found ourselves having our meals in the cosy eating are of the kitchen. Access to the property is easy from the main road, and cars could be parked just inside the property's gates. The house sits on the side of the hill offering nice views of the surrounding area from the bedroom upstairs, as well as the bbq & pool area in the yard (at the time of the year, full of freezing cold water and later snow and ice ;). Downstairs, the trees are all around you. It is really quite lovely.
Accessing the laundry area requires going out to the back of the house, which did not work so well given the cold and snowy weather we had. Also, the heater system works great (water coils) and kept the house nice and warm, but when the storm brought down the electricity in the whole town for a few days, the system failed us. Unusual circumstances for everyone in the whole region. Luckily Gabriela had left us with a good supply of firewood, which we burnt relentlessly during those cold days, in both the fireplace in the living room as well as the "parrilla grill" in the kitchen.
After a few extra days spent in town due to the closed airport, we made it back home safe and sound, bringing with us really nice memories of our time in San Martin de los Andes. Looking forward to going back - although, perhaps, next time in the summer. ;) Thank you, Gabriela, for having us!
