My wife and I had a wonderful time in Mljet, staying 8 days in Diana's apartment in Govedjari. The apartment is a 5-10 minute walk away from the Big Lake, down the hill, and the nearest restaurant is right there on the lake. It's a 30 minute walk (or 5 minute car ride) to Pomena and a similar distance to Polace, where there are grocery stores, other restaurants etc. It might sound more convenient to stay closer to amenities, but we really enjoyed the quiet mornings and evenings in Govedjari, and its central spot in the national park meant we could walk to anywhere in that part of the island easily. (We rented a car for the final 3 days to explore the rest of Mljet -- highly recommended.) The apartment is nice and simple, and to my mind much easier to relax in than some of the fancier options that were available in Pomena and Polace. It had everything we needed for a longer stay, and it was easy to prepare meals in the kitchen. Last but definitely not least, Diana was a wonderful host and a treasure trove of knowledge about Mljet. She picked us up from the ferry port in Pomena and even came to the other port in Sobra to have coffee with us when we were leaving -- it was an absolute pleasure to meet her.
