Quaint cottage situated on bluff above Moosabec Reach. Perfect for a couple or solo adventurer. Watch the working lobster boats, read, paint or take an easy drive to National parks, blueberry fields or ice cream. Located in fishing village across from small library, down from marina & historic society. A perfectly relaxing getaway.

El lugar

The cottage is over 100 years old and has that vintage atmosphere. Each year we work to make it even lovelier. It has stood up to many storms and even a couple hurricanes. The roof is new, as is the water heater.

Otros aspectos destacables

The cottages are located on a bank above the shoreline. Moosebec Reach is a working lobster boat harbor. The shore/beach is perfect for hunting for sea glass, discovering things that wash ashore and watching for seals and eagles, not for swimming or playing in the sand. Water is very cold. Tides are about 15 feet, so shore looks very different between high and low tides.

The property is completely non-smoking, both inside and outside the cottage. A penalty of $100 will be charged if the cottage smells like smoke.

We could not have asked for a better place to spend a few days away from the busy city. From the idyllic location, to the wonderful hosts, our trip was wonderful from start to finish. Jonesport is a small town with a big heart, and is perfect for a getaway. We were there during the blueberry festival, and had a wonderful time exploring the local area. The cabin itself was perfect for the two of us, quaint and clean, it was the perfect home base for exploring Beals Island, and walking around the town. We enjoyed sitting on the deck, and playing cribbage in front of the fire. We truly can’t wait until our next visit.

Jonesport is NOT an attractive town. Most homes are in need of repair. This "beach" gets a lot of debris- NOT usable. We found a large animal(dog) skin washed up on the shore along with enough timber and lumber to build a small home. The flooring is peeling up everywhere and needs replacing badly. There is no door to the bathroom area.

Respuesta de Heather:
Jonesport is not a typical tourist town filled with cookie cutter elaborate ornamental properties. But it is an idyllic beautiful active vibrant New England fishing community filled with lots of hard working locals and amazing vistas. That includes the wonderful beach below the cottage. While it is true that some trash and timbers can wash up in an active harbor, the beach is wonderful and accessible. You can explore its length from mussel shoals on the left to rocky wharves on the right to gathering sea-glass at mid-tide to hunting snails, fish, and crabs. Our kids and many families have spent hundreds of hours exploring that beach and loving it. As for the cottage, yes it is not perfect, but it is wonderful for a 100 year old cabin. And the toilet does have a door with a decorative curtain walling off the shower and sink. Families have enjoyed McCollum Cottages for generations - we really wish you had actually decided to stay even a single night to give it and Jonesport the opportunity they deserve.

We were met at the cabin and shown in. A small rustic cabin, but you just can't beat the view or the friendliness of everyone!

Great place to get away! Cabin was just as explained. Nice location with beach access just off the front porch. Communication was great and very quick to responded to any questions I had. I would recommend this to anyone!

Lupine Cottage is a clean and comfortable place to stay! Heather went above and beyond to give helpful information about the house and area. She included sights, restaurants, and local shopping. We liked being able to cook some meals and the kitchen equipment was adequate for our needs. The view is absolutely gorgeous- we loved sitting on the deck and relaxing.

Heather's cottage in Jonesport is an idyllic, authentic piece of Downeast Maine. My girlfriend and I had a wonderful experience staying here and exploring the Bold Coast of Maine. The place looks like the picture on the the box! It is a simple, clean and functional. The views are spectacular from sunrise, to sunset to the vast starry night skies. Jonesport is a sweet little working fishing town. The locals are friendly, as were the other vacationers we met staying next doer. Hiking the nature preserve at Great Wass Island was certainly a highlight, challenging and rewarding with an amazing walk around the coastline of the undisturbed island. Visiting in August, we were at the height of blueberry season and took advantage of the roadside farm stands to buy a quart on our way up. The drive up and back on Route One was a fun road trip passing through the iconic cities and towns along the Maine Coast featuring beautiful examples of historic Colonial, Federalist and Victorian architecture. A visit to Fort Knox and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory are worth the stop as Route One crosses the river into Bucksport. A short drive north is the town of Machias, home to Helen's, a great diner with excellent blueberry pancakes. It would be a good stop on your way out to Lubec, a border town with Canada, and the Eastern most point in the United States at West Quoddy Head. The lighthouse at the site is over 150 years old. We spent four nights in Jonesport and the rest of our week in Portland, but would have been happy to spend an entire week here. I highly reccomend Heather's cottage.
