A comfy apartment, next to major bus lines and a block away from Parque la Carolina. Check-in was easy and the family accommodated a last minute request. Would recommend and I will stay again!

Juan's place is awesome. I was so nervous to find a place in Quito with fast wifi because I work entirely online teaching English, and my job depends on stable internet. I am here to say, if you are looking for a great work place with a nice desk, a great open window with natural light, and the fastest wifi in all of Quito, here ya go. The place isn't necessarily beautiful, but it's perfect for one or two people for a few weeks. The bed is comfy and the shower gets reallllly hot! The little kitchen helped us save a ton of money because we were able to cook vegetables, noodles, soups, etc. Juan's family is great, too; very helpful and just downstairs. BTW, don't listen to that review below me... nothing about this experience felt sketchy. It feels safe and secure and is close to tons of bus stops, a huge park, a big mall, etc. There are some great $2 breakfast places on the street too :)

Respuesta de Juan:
Dear Guests, As you can see in the comments of this apartment, no other guests complained about the place. I am also very grateful to them. It was an honor to have received them and hope to see them again. Jason Alan Rougeau is a separate case. He accumulated garbage in the department for the period of two months, creating an unhealthy environment of unbearable stench, which provoked the neighbors' complaint. He left the apartment stealing an induction cooker and the keys to the apartment and of the building. He wrote malicious comments that do not cling to the truth, perhaps, to justify somehow his vandalism in my department: He threw trash in the apartment as if that place were a dump. Threw away some photos of my authorship from the walls of the apartment, stole an induction field cooker and took the keys to the building. He also left the lights on. Acting, in that way, with the intention of causing discomfort. I am solving this problem through airbnb. Due to the slander published by Jason on the department's mural, I am obliged to defend myself, with the truth, from his malicious comments. Jason says several lies, like the following: First: Jason: "Very shady, sketchy behavior when I arrived. We had agreed upon a charge for airport pickup. When I arrived, they told me they would not charge me after all, then when we got to the "home", I changed their mind "(June 2017). To tell the truth, I came to an agreement with Jason that my brother would charge him $ 25 for bringing him from the airport to the apartment. As confirmed by the following airbnb chats: Juan: “Hola Jason, mi hermano te puede ir a retirar en el aeropuerto. They have not tried to steal my things or anything, but you can see where this is headed. I noticed that after I had made a simple, innocent complaint to the kitchen, the lock on my personal gate had been removed (which is NOT something you want to deal with in Quito). They claim this was a mistake on part of maintenance, which may be true for all I know. This has not happened again yet, and I will inform you if it does "(June 2017). To tell the truth, Jason changed the locks on the metal doors of the apartment, blocking the entrance of a neighbor who shared a common corridor with the apartment where Jason was staying. That fact made the custodian of the building change the locks of metal doors. That action at no time jeopardized Jason's safety. Because the apartment where Jason was staying has a wooden door with two locks, it provides more security to guests. What scares him is that Jason created in his mind a paranoid fear about an insignificant fact. If you have any questions about the security of the apartment please ask my previous guests, who left their comments here. For all of them the department is a safe place. The "kitchen" Jason mentions in his commentary was the electric appliance that he stolen from the apartment. Also, I changed the locks of the apartment to provide more security, as Jason took the keys to previous locks and fled with the kitchen and the keys of the apartment. He left with those things without made the check out. Third: Jason: "Do not stay here, there are too many other places in Quito's desirable neighborhoods. I rented another month before I figured out the problem with the constant "construction" noise, so I will keep you posted in my next review about any other bullshit I have to put up with while I'm living here so you won't have to. "(June 2017). This lie is very easy to check because, as you can see, Jason wrote two comments on the apartment's mural. That means he rented the apartment in May and then rented it again in June. Since, as we all know, every time a guest rented the a place in airbnb has the opportunity to leave a comment on the mural of the place that was rent. This proves confirm Jason's two comments mean he leased that place twice. I wonder, if he did not like the apartment in May, why did he rent it again in the month of June? Why did not you ask me to reject your reservation for the month of June? Regarding noise, as the chats with me and Jason proves, Jason never informed in the chats me about the noise. He only talked about that problem in the comment he made public on the apartment mural of the month of June. According to my family, the noise originated from the repairs of a apartment in the same building, the same ones that were made during working hours. Not at dawn, nor at night, as Jason says. Those repairs are over and I can assure you there is no noise in the apartment. If noise had been a problem. Surely, the other airbnb guest, who was staying in an apartment in the same building would also have mentioned it. Not in the least, as you can see in the other advertisement of the other apartment that I rent by airbnb, Mark, who rented April, May and part of June, says the following: Mark: "Juan's apartment is in a fantastic location. There are plenty of convenient establishments in walking distance. And there is public transportation, right outside Juan's place. Juan and his family were very accomadating and helped make my stay extremely enjoyable "(June, 2017). Jason also said he found the apartment dirty. I paid a person to clean the place, however, it seems that this person did not do a good job. I have already changed personnel and I have another person who will take care of leaving everything clean. I am always trying to improve the service and I appreciate the real and constructive criticism. I always behaved with Jason kindly. What ended my patience was the intentional mistreatment of the apartment by Jason and the disappearance of the keys and the cooker. Finally, by means of the facts and in honor of the truth I verify that several of the affirmations of Jason were exaggerated and some are not true. If you have any doubts please observe the comments of the previous guests that I had the honor to receive in my apartments or write me directly. Thank you for your attention. Very shady, sketchy behavior when I arrived. We had agreed upon a charge for airport pickup. When I arrived, they told me they would not charge me after all, then when we got to the "home", he changed his mind” (junio de 2017). They have not tried to steal my things or anything, but you can see where this is headed. I also noticed that after I had made a simple, quite innocent complaint aabout the kitchen, the lock on my personal gate had been removed (which is NOT something you want to deal with in Quito). They claim this was a mistake on part of maintenance, which may be true for all I know. This has not happened again as of yet, and I will inform you if it does” (junio de 2017). Tercera: Jason: “Do not stay here, there are too many other places in Quito's desirable neighborhoods. I rented another month before I figured out the problem with the constant "construction" noise, so I will keep you posted in my next review about any other bullshit I have to put up with while I'm living here so you won't have to” (Junio de 2017). There are plenty of convenient establishments in walking distance. And there is public transportation, right outside Juan's place. Juan and his family were very accomadating and helped to make my stay extremely enjoyable” (junio de 2017).

As I am writing this, it is 8am. I am sick and I need to get some sleep. They have been hammering away for a month now doing "god knows what". I presume the host should be aware that there is major, noisy work going on in this building, which was not noted in the listing. Last week they were hammering away randomly at 3am. I'm not kidding. It seems whenever I am trying to relax, enjoy my apartment or get some work done, maintenance (or whoever) is carrying on very loudly, creating a chaotic commotion throughout the entire building. Since they know what's going on here, this should be listed in the ad. In the state of Oregon, we have something called "a right to quiet enjoyment" when we rent an apartment, but I guess people get away with this in Ecuador. Very shady, sketchy behavior when I arrived. We had agreed upon a charge for airport pickup. When I arrived, they told me they would not charge me after all, then when we got to the "home", he changed his mind. This has not happened again as of yet, and I will inform you if it does. The kitchen is filthy, and the apartment was just barely cleaned enough not to be considered a violation of the terms and conditions I suppose. You can tell they didn't mop the floor. I see they have tried blaming this issue on OTHER TENANTS, AS IF I DID NOT PAY A CLEANING FEE??? There is an unidentifiable black "filth" around the sink's faucet that could easily be caulked. The rags in their place on the kitchen surface were filthy to begin with. The wifi is good, the shower is hot and I am able to cook and store meat in the fridge. The apartment is also in a really good neighborhood. As long as you don't hail a taaxi there on the street, you don't have to worry about the crime Quito is notorious for around here. The straw that broke the camel's back is the noise that should have been listed (and discounted for), but wasn't. Otherwise, I would have been able to forgive the other flaws. Do not stay here, there are too many other places in Quito's desirable neighborhoods. I rented another month before I figured out the problem with the constant "construction" noise, so I will keep you posted in my next review about any other bullshit I have to put up with while I'm living here so you won't have to.
