Nature Meets Craftsman Era Grace. My 6 year old son and I needed to give his Mom a break for Memorial Day weekend. He loves the outdoors, I love beautiful restorations of classic homes. We found both at The Cottage in The Pines. Our host Lynn, has masterfully restored an Arts and Crafts era bungalow with period correct furnishings and modernized amenities (spacious bathrooms with beautiful fixtures and tile work, new HVAC, ceiling fans, high quality linens and mattresses, state of the art smoke/CO2 detectors, Wifi capable of streaming content...). We were greeted by Lynn and our Innkeeper, Maria. Both are fantastic ladies and Maria is great at anticipating your needs. A beautiful breakfast was served, hot coffee always at the ready and we were even treated to a pizza when my son refused to eat what I had made for him. The property itself is part of a larger project Lynn is tackling which sits along a pond where a beautiful old saw mill (still standing and slated for restoration) once worked. My son loves capturing (and releasing) all kinds of little creatures. The pond, surrounding grounds and the stream that feeds it are a nature lover's delight. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and by evening we had encountered 3 different species of newts, salamanders (both land and aquatic), crawfish and numerous cool bugs. He was overjoyed. I was told there a numerous other activities and destinations nearby but we were fine just where we were! My wife is a photographer so she will definitely be joining us on our next visit!

Respuesta de Lynn:
Kenny, thank you for your kind words. We loved hosting you and look forward to your return. It means even more coming from someone who is sensitive and appreciative about what historic restoration means. We love to watch kids grow, especially lively, well behaved ones like your son. All my best.

I love finding old buildings and bringing them back to life. I have revived: a 1848 log cabin school house, a 1791 colonial dutch land grant house, a 12'x26' boathouse and currently an abandoned family estate among others. I love project where I can learn new skills, currently working with sawyers, dredgers and millwrights! I am passionate about my family and friends and love NYC as much as the small villages and wild side of Upstate NY.

My motto is "the best project is a done project" but it's not done until it's the best I can do.
