You’ll love my place because of the wonderful views across open countryside, the spiral staircase and the tree growing through the balcony. It's as close as you can get to a treehouse with all the comforts of home. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers.

El alojamiento
Gorgeously romantic detached annex with stunning views across an area of outstanding natural beauty. Generously proportioned studio room with French doors to large private balcony with large tree growing through it. Spiral staircase to downstairs kitchenette and shower room. Access to beautiful shared garden which backs onto open fields. Sleeps 2 very comfortably. Adults only. Self catering.

It's on a tiny little lane with trees meeting over the road in places. There are lots of public footpaths including one that goes through next door's land and down through fields to the woods. Sometimes we have sheep in the field behind - at the moment we have cows with calves in the field beyond that.

Treetops is an ideal retreat or lovenest - it's wonderful space for getting away from it all and right into the countryside; to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature; to heal, write, create music or art or to study. It’s the perect place to wind down and de-stress. It's very much a cosy country property rather than a stylish hotel setting but it's nicely and very comfortably furnished in rustic style. Horses clop along the lane outside and birdsong fills the air. There is a farmer along the lane who has equipment in use and large vehicles during the week sometimes so it's more reliably peaceful at weekends. The owner is an artist, music teacher and 2nd degree Reiki practitioner who lives in the main house with one child.

Treetops has undergone major renovations recently, including a new balcony made of local Sussex oak by local craftsmen in the traditional Sussex style. The bathroom now has a new white suite with much bigger shower and a heated towel rail. Upstairs it has new carpet, curtains, rug, cushions, TV, mattress, pillows, linen, blinds, a power socket with USB points, a little dressing table with a mirror and hairdryer and a more romantic light above the bed. The kitchen has new quarry tiles on the floor, new worktops, sink, an integrated oven and glass hob and there's a washing machine and a dishwasher, which will hopefully make guests feel properly off-duty and relaxed!

Two new Shepherd Huts (Meadowsweet and Heartsease) have been built at the bottom of the garden for couples. If you would like to book for a larger group of adults it is now possible to book Treetops, Heartsease and Meadowsweet at the same time. All three places are suitable for shielding or self-isolating and completely independent of each other but if you had 3 couples who wanted to reunite they could all socially distance and still share the garden and BBQ area. Please see our other listings for more details and to check availability: heartseasehut and meadowsweethut.

There's a patio with a built-in barbecue and a fire-pit which you are welcome to use: each property has their own, labelled garden furniture now which you can move around the garden) and a deck with a shared hot tub (NB. available if it's safe - please don't book because of this facility). It's in the middle of the garden overlooking the fields and hills beyond for miles and it really is blissful. The hot tub is available between 9am and midnight. Please be aware that it is shared, very public and for therapeutic use only. Guests can book private half hour sessions and must use the sanitization provided. There is a small charge for each use - £5 April - September or £10 October - March.

Guests must be happy with committing to 2m distancing and participating in our new hygiene regime by using the products provided. On top of Airbnb's enhanced cleaning protocol we are also running an ozone generator (which kills everything including viruses) between stays. Because of the considerable extra costs of doing the extra cleaning and sanitizing, shorter stays are more expensive. Because of the time it takes to prepare, unfortunately it's no longer possible to offer early check-ins or late check-outs.

Although smoking is not allowed inside, it is permitted on the balcony.

Acceso para huéspedes
Treetops is a fully self contained apartment. Guests also have access to large areas of the owner's garden, BBQ area and the new shared hot tub spa (if safe due to Covid). There are two luxury Shepherd Huts at the far end of the garden who also share the garden. We encourage guests to feel welcome in the shared spaces and avoid going very near each others' front doors, none of which overlook each other.

Otros aspectos destacables
We have a lovely dog and a cat. They are very friendly but not allowed in Treetops because of people with allergies. We have to be very careful with the gates because of the dog. Please don't ask to bring your pets even if they're really well behaved as this would affect the allergic people very seriously and wouldn't be fair to our pets. If you are afraid of animals please don't book as it's not practical to keep them in all day.

Similarly, please don't ask if you can bring children (too many safety issues) or extra guests (too many people onsite) or if the hot tub is private (it really is shared and very public).

Herstmonceux, Reino Unido

Herstmonceux is a lovely little Sussex village with a pub (the Brewers Arms, currently closed due to Covid), a French brasserie (The Sundial, French cuisine, a proper treat with amuse bouche between courses, currently amazingly doing takeaway), a fish and chip shop that also does very good burgers, chicken, halloumi and pies (The Willows, closed at the moment) and a really outstanding Indian restaurant (Eastern Promise, also doing takeaway if you collect). We've got two convenience stores, a petrol station with a general store, a bake shop, a coffee shop and a few other shops. Supermarkets (Asda, Tesco and Waitrose) in Hailsham are about 3 miles away. Callendars in Hailsham is a really lovely restaurant which is now doing takeaway and delivery. It's about 15 mins walk to the village from Treetops.

(*pre-Covid info - to be updated) If you don't mind driving or longer walks, there are plenty of good pubs that serve excellent food within easy reach. The Merrie Harriers in Cowbeech is about a mile a half away and it's a favourite amongst locals - a very traditional pub with beams and ingelnook fireplaces, good food and beer and a lovely garden. The White Horse in Bodle Street is at the other end of the lane and does good pub food and has a nice atmosphere. The Bull's Head in Boreham Street (about a mile and a half) have a beautiful garden and do great food including excellent home made pies. The Lamb in Wartling (near the castle) is similar but more gourmet (and pricier) and the Giant's Rest (by the Long Man) is also very good after a walk through the countryside).

Tucked away in historically rich 1066 country it is ideally located for walking, horse riding, cycling and painting. For nature lovers there is an abundance of local bird life and the nearby marshes and levels on the way to the beach at Pevensey (15 minutes by car), where there's another castle. 5 mins from the South Downs National Park it is within easy reach of Eastbourne, Tunbridge Wells, Hastings, Brighton, Ashdown (Pooh Bear) Forest and Forest Row Country Park. There is fishing at the local trout farm, golf, tennis, falconry, archery, pottery, the windmill at Windmill Hill, and of course, Herstmonceux Castle and the Science Centre and Observatory. You can go sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and paddleboarding from Eastbourne or Cuckmere. Flying experiences/lessons can also be booked locally. Other nearby attractions include Bateman's (Rudyard Kipling's house), the Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park, Michelham Priory, Standen House in East Grinstead (a treasure trove for lovers of the Arts and Crafts movement), Great Dixter House and Gardens in Northiam, Scotney Castle Garden in Lamberhurst, the White Horse at Alfriston and Long Man at Wilmington. Rye, with it's abundance of interesting antique shops and restaurants, is less than an hour away, as is Winchelsea. Camber Sands is only a little further. Battle (the village where the 1066 battle with tthe Normans happened) is 20 mins east by car. Bude Water and Bedgebury Pineatum are about 45 mins by car (last time I went walking there I found a brewery which was open during lockdown where you can drink outside).

I'm a single mum with one child. Treetops and the new Shepherd Hut, Heartsease, are in our garden. I teach music and art and run healing courses. I love hosting; I've been doing it for about 8 years and it gives me enormous pleasure welcoming people into our little sanctuary, seeing their faces brighten as I show them round, and sending them off happy and relaxed afterwards. I love the open countryside and the birdsong here, organic gardening, live music, cooking, animals and people.

I do my best to be here to welcome guests (if I can't I leave a key and come and say hello when I return). I live next door so guests are totally private and separate but I am usually on hand to help if needed. My aim is to be available but not intrusive; we've made a lot of friends through offering holidays but only if people have actively approached us. You will probably see us in the garden from time to time. Should anything go wrong I always have my phone and even if we are out or away we have local friends who can help if needed.
