Our Grand Tipi is a camper's soul retreat. Comfortably appointed and lovingly designed, this 28' diameter, 600 sq. ft. lodge is more open floor plan home than tent. View desert flora/fauna while lying in the big, cozy bed. Hike in the neighboring 45,000 acre wildlife preserve.
There is a small communal kitchen on the property and a toilet & shower house. Fresh drinking water, coffee & tea 24 hrs.

El lugar

There's something about sleeping in a tipi. It feels very close to nature. The canvas breathes with the wind and adds to the symphony of natural sound in the desert. Songbirds, doves, jays, coyotes, sometimes an owl or two.

This 28' diameter tipi space is glamping on a grand scale. It holds both a comfortable king-sized bed and an extra-long couch and up to 2 cots for additional guests. It also has a large sink with hot and cold water, a mini-fridge, an electric kettle, and power outlets. We bring a large floor fan in there during the hot summer months and an electric blanket keeps you cozy no matter how cold it gets in the winter. While we make all of our spaces as comfortable as possible, please keep in mind that this is still a camping type experience and you'll need to plan for the weather accordingly. The summers get quite hot and the winters get very cold.

Our family home is steps away from your front door in case you need anything at all during your stay.

Disponible para huéspedes

There is a private seating area outside the tipi with a chiminea for fires when conditions permit. There is also a shaded communal space on the property for eating which includes an outdoor kitchen (charcoal/gas grill, electric stove and sink). Along with a private bathroom & shower house, there is a separate outdoor shower that lets you take in the views and the stars.

Fresh drinking water and coffee & tea supplies available 24 hrs.

Atención a los huéspedes

We (Karen, Chris and our 4yr old) stay in the main house on the property. We also have an older black lab on the property who will bark to announce your arrival, but is sweet once she realizes you might throw a stick or ball. We'd love to briefly visit with you during your stay, but are more than happy to make ourselves scarce if it is sweet solitude you seek.

Otros aspectos destacables

We love our property and hope this love shines through during your stay here. We call our property Temenos from the ancient greek word which means 'a piece of land cut off from common usage and dedicated as a natural sanctuary.' The atmosphere we try to maintain here is one of quiet contemplation and reverence for nature apart from the everyday hustle and bustle of emails and cellphones (though wifi and extremely limited cell service - AT&T only and barely at that - are available). Please respect the fact that we are in a rural neighborhood; people move out here for a quiet life, though their dogs can get to howling at the full moon and sometimes the humans do too.

Besides the main house where our family lives, there is a smaller tipi and a restored vintage Spartan travel trailer also on the property, and communal spaces are shared by both the family and other guests. Finally, remember that this is the high desert - it can be a wild place! Weather can change quickly, windy conditions happen often, summers are hot during the day (and perfect at night), winter temperatures can drop below freezing and snow isn't unheard of (and it's absolutely beautiful). Our property backs up to raw desert where animals and insects rule. Keep this in mind and share in our stewardship of this unique ecosystem.

We have lovely neighbors with hens (fresh eggs!) and a rooster (crows at every suitable moment). There are also barking dogs and howling coyotes in the neighborhood. And ancient footpaths leading through the boulder gardens and canyons in the preserve behind us. Windstorms and dust devils and serene sunrises and astonishing wildflowers. It is not the mildest of climates, but if you come prepared for the elements, the high Mojave Desert is truly an eden for those that love the outdoors.

A great place to experience everything and nothing at the same time.

if you've never been to this area of the desert, or even if you have, Camp Temenos is NOT to be missed. a very special place, you can simply feel the love that has gone into this destination. the setting is divine, all the best that the desert has to offer. secluded with a wide open vista of the San Gorgonio foothills and lovingly tended vegetation to soften the usual minimalism of the desert. carefully chosen details keep you feeling pampered and peaceful.

Karen, Chris and their little girl were amazing. The tipi was gorgeous and the breakfast was delicious. We can't wait to go back there.

We stayed in the large tipi and it was lovely. We were not expecting much but when we got there, it was more than we expected. It was set up nicely with a fan, blankets, stove, Chemex coffee maker, fruits, flowers, tea light candles, flashlights, etc.. We thought staying at a tipi during summer would be too hot but we had a nice breeze and although it was a bit chilly at night, all the blankets provided kept us warm and comfy. We would totally recommend this place.

What a beautiful place! We stayed in the large tipi which was perfect for our little family of three. The bed was comfortable, the fridge was well stocked with all kinds of goodies, and the bathroom filled with wonderful smelling soaps and shampoo. So many special touches, like fresh flowers, local coffee... it was beyond our expectations.

What an awesome place to stay. The large Teepee was beautiful, the interior furnishings were unique and made the Teepee feel like a boutique hotel room. The hosts were wonderful and very accommodating. We would most definitely stay again.

My environment is my sanctuary and I enjoy sharing it with others. My partner Chris and I moved with our daughter to the high desert several ago and we immediately fell in love with the area, its topography and wildlife, and its colorful population of artists & dreamers.
If you are a dreamer, come in
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer...
If you're a pretender, come sit by the fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Come in!
