Location is very “country” and dated. Roosters crow very early in the morning! Breakfast is great fruits and yogurt!

Joan’s accomadations were simple and a bit outdated, but clean and cozy. The breakfast was delicious, especially her homemade goats milk yogurt(tastes like thick and creamy Greek yogurt). ASK HER FOR TIPS ON LAVA VIEWING. She told us great tips after we’d already done our day at …

Pros: Located very close to the park. Nice breakfast with fruits, hard boiled farm fresh eggs, a variety of breads and cereals. Joan even noticed I was coughing a bit (getting over a cold and asthma reacting to vog) and offered me some homemade ginger elixir that cleared out the …

Please note that the "smell" was that from the cedar in the room (the entire unit is lined with cedar) and for some can be overpowering. Your accommodation had both a dehumidifier in one closet and a heater in the other closet. Had you simply communicated your uncomfortable situation this could have easily been resolved. If the pots and pans were not adequate for your purpose, why did you not request the use of something more suitable to your liking? I cannot begin to guess these issues if I have no knowledge of them at the time. I am here to assist you in anyway possible, but need to have the ability to do so, wish you would have been more communicable.

Joan’s place is a perfect location for volcano visitors. We had everything we needed, her breakfast was over the top and we were 5 minutes from the entrance. It’s a working farm with fresh items at every breakfast and always interesting folks to visit with at the communal meal. I…

While the location is great, and the breakfast in the main house was just fine (and a plus for airbnb sites), the Aloha Hut suffers from a very strong mildew smell. This is probably due to having wall-to-wall carpet in a very damp and essentially unheated space. Since mildew real…

I am sorry you were so effected by the humidity and smell from the cedar cottage, but need to remind all that this is a rain forest and Volcano has oftentimes been compared to that of the Amazon when it comes to rainfall averages of 400-500" per year. Hence, this is a general concern especially for those used to much drier climates or suffer from asthmatic conditions. We strive to keep the unit as dry as possible and provide both a dehumidifier and a heater for your comfort. We would gladly appreciate any suggestions to combat this ongoing concern.

I live simply growing and raising about 90% of my own food and about 75% of the food fed to the animals I raise. I stress upon a zero percent waste management and teach others how to appreciate the beauty of the surrounding rainforest. I have enjoyed Hawaii Volcanoes National P…
