In the 19th century, the house next door was a pub called The Bluebell Inn: in early spring, the woods nearby are a sea of blue, so that is doubtless how the pub got its name. The pub was a Drovers' Inn, probably medieval, and is situated on the route of a Roman road, unusually winding its way around a steep valley. The drovers were on their way to the famous Weyhill Fair, a few miles to the south, and the site is marked, as these places were, by a group of tall Scots Pines to direct the drovers to places where they could stay the night. The publicans owned a pair of valuable shire horses whose stalls were in the beautiful brick-built stables next door which has now been recently converted to form a comfortable annexe - to which we would like to welcome you to stay. It's in a wonderful rural situation, remote but convenient for many of the amenities and destinations in central southern England.

Completely self-contained, the property is private and peaceful. It is situated within a courtyard of other outbuildings, a garage and store. We will be your neighbours and we potter around the grounds, sometimes the gardener comes, and there are comings and goings with the horses &c. If you don't want to bump into anyone during your stay, this is not the place for you.

Although a one-bedroomed "apartment", the property has a spacious feel. The bedroom (double-bed) is large and has lovely views to the hills beyond. Wardrobes, drawers, etc. Travel cot available.

Well-equipped open plan kitchen and living room; with sofa, chair, TV and dining table.

Please note: the nice views are to be had from the bedroom, not the living room.

Long lets considered. Or regular weekday or weekend lets.

Riders - use of stable & paddocks (by arrangement).

Disponible para huéspedes

El anexo es independiente. Aparcamiento justo afuera.

The annexe is self-contained. Parking immediately outside. Access to shared gardens, (landscaping in a work-in-progress, but there is a lawn by a pond with lovely views, etc).

We live in a thatched cottage next door - following building works, landscaping around the house is a work-in-progress

If driving a long distance, please note there are no shops nearby, so you might want to stop and get supplies on the way. There are pubs around which serve nice food, though.

Nearest shops:
If driving M3 - SP10 4AJ Tesco
If driving M4 - RG17 0DN Co-op

These are small convenience shops. In England, the big supermarkets close at 16:00 on Sunday. Petrol stations also remain open, but don't have much choice.

Had a lovely time at the old stables, Edward and Rachel are great hosts. We couldn't have wished for a better place to stay whilst waiting for house become available, it was a really good size for the 2 of us and our dog. The views are spectacular, a perfect getaway in the most idyllic setting. You definitely feel like you away from the hustle and bustle. I would definitely recommend staying here if you want to get away from it all and recharge your batteries in a superb location.

Such a beautiful place to stay. I'd booked it because it was perfectly situated between Stonehenge and Avebury. I could not fault it at all. The views from the bedroom were incredible, not to mention the beautiful sunrises from behind the hills and the amazing bed. It was like sleeping on a fluffy cloud! Ed was a really welcoming host and we would certainly return. The open plan living area has everything you could want, a really well equipped kitchen, lovely magazines, Amazon firestick, cosy sofa, perfect! The bathroom was also great with a good hot shower and roll top bath. If you're looking for a relaxing location in a beautiful setting this will be the place for you.

Perfect getaway from the city life with lots of space. My son loved the horses. Clear skies at night, perfect for gazing. Edward made us feel welcome and a special thanks to Rachel for showing us the horses always with a smile!

Edward's a classical musician & composer. Rachel is a medical doctor and a keen horse rider. Daughter Nelly is a young professional about town. We have enjoyed getting our property ready for airbnb guests. Our style is simple and unfussy. Like us, really. We also enjoy meeting…
