I'm very sad that Marina and Jon didn't enjoy their stay but it is curious that they aked for a seven day extension - if it was that bad.
Unfortunately circumstances changed days before Marina and Jon arrived and they were disappointed with changes that I made to their 17day booking. However, after a few days they said that they liked my house and were satisfied with the arrangements.
I had also made a mistake with trialling ‘smart’ pricing, and at £21 per night (usual price £35) felt they had an extremely good deal.
Later on, their plans changed and they wanted to stay on a further 7 days. Initially I said, yes, but soon after, changed my mind. I had realised that long-term bookings have a very different vibe to short term, for example daily evening cooking sessions, and one of them being at home all day.
They were a really quiet and friendly couple, but they were, understandably, quite annoyed / rude when I changed my mind about the extended stay.
Sadly we parted on uneasy terms, but am sure that under more straightforward arrangements things would have been very different.
Oh dear ..Many bitter comments made here are vastly untrue. We were away for 9 days of their visit. The bedroom that they used is at the opposite end of the long hallway and there is a flat roof overhead! The bathroom and toilet next doot to their bedroom and it was for their use only.
They said they really liked our house and Bounds Green area. They were renting a room, not a whole property so to complain about us being in our own home is ridiculous.
They made themselves totally at home … leaving their cases in hall because one was too smelly to leave in their room ?
I was very generous to Marina; letting her do loads of washing in my machine, airing her case in the garden , sitting out in the garden, using my bike .
I am certainly not tired of hosting, but would certainly be more hesitant about lengthy bookings in future.
