Welcome to our eco-house, nestled in between 4 ancient cork oak trees and built with great respect for nature. The Tiny House is discreetly located in the natural park, hidden away from noisy roads and busy life.

We promise you a deeply relaxing stay, the only noise being the singing of birds and the gurgle of the stream. Our house is perfect for nature-lovers, hikers and walkers, couples who want a romantic getaway or even for those who suffer from EHS.

El alojamiento
The eco-house runs on solar energy and the shower and tap water comes from the stream. This water is heated by the sun and the waste water is then used on the land.

Sleeping in Smugglers is a wonderful experience. The elevation in the lounge area is 2,5 metres high, so it really does seem like you are in a bird’s nest. At night there is no noise pollution, there are only the sounds of nature, giving you a peaceful night’s sleep. You can also sleep outside on the pull-out sofa with a mosquito net or in one of the hammocks near the stream.

The homemade house has been built on an elevated platform made from pallets, the balustrade taken from a chestnut forest near Marvao castle and the base is built on the Acacia trees that dotted the land before it was cleared. The house is mainly build using reclaimed wood and windows.

The bathroom has a shower and a compost toilet with amazing views of the olive groves and forests surrounding it. There is an old water tank, now restored, which can be used for cooling down in the hot summer. The tank uses the local stream water, but does not have a filter. The sundeck is made from pallets and the furniture was saved and upcycled. There are two outdoor bucket showers located under the hazelnut trees.

There is a small stream that runs along the land hidden by many hazelnut trees and vines. The land itself is terraced and has many varieties of trees: cork, walnut, olives, orange, cherry, apple, peach and plum. In the past it was used for growing crops, but had been left to go wild for about 25 years. The area is full of wildlife and there are many contraband walks in the area.

Dónde vas a estar

Marvão, Portalegre, Portugal

The area has some wonderful Smuggler Route walks. Some of the best times to see nature in its full glory is in spring and autumn. There is a great energy in spring when all the multi-coloured flowers are in bloom and the sun is shining.

The walking paths often cross interesting rock formations and some pass through the mountains and rivers. Even small children can do many of these walks; it's really like taking them on a short adventure they are bound to remember. There is so much wildlife to see on the way, so bring your camera!

Further afield, there are many walks around Marvao, Castelo De Vide area and even Spain. You will find yourself traipsing around the old Roman roads or bumping into dusty dolmens and megaliths. The area is steeped in history, the scenery is breathtaking and the Alentejo people are relaxed and laid-back. Time seems to move slower here.
