Bedrooms listed (10 in all) are in the building we call The Inn---a renovated horse barn, still sporting stall doors! Each room has one double bed, desk, wardrobe, side table and big window. The Inn has two kitchenettes, two common areas, a wrap-around deck, a patio, and several shared Men's and Ladies bathrooms (6 toilets, 4 showers, in all). The Inn is separate from our home, which is the office where guests check in. We live on 34 acres, with views of meadows and the Blue Ridge Mountains, in beautiful Nelson County Virginia.

One of us is almost always here to greet you and settle you in when you arrive. And if for some reason we can't coordinate this, we'll write you a note. (So be sure to keep us posted on your eta, since we don't want to be out on errands when you arrive!) Continental breakfast each morning gives us a chance to chat and touch-base.

Our premises are ideal for retreats, small weddings, reunions of all sorts, and groups of friends---OR just perfect as a get-away for individual travelers. According to cyclists (from near and far), the Inn is especially suited for those who love tackling mountains and back-road adventures on 2-wheels---(especially because Martin is a member of that tribe!)
That said, no worries for guests who prefer their "feet on the ground"---Plenty of fun to be had adventuring on area trails, including the renowned AT, accessible just 13 miles up the hill at Reid's Gap.

My Sweet Heart and I went for a last minute get away and were unable to stay where we normally do in Buckingham County. After a search we found Martin and Kathy’s place in Faber Virginia which is near Wintergreen. We couldn’t have been more pleased. Kathy has original art work on the walls and Martins’ stories of his adventures on his bicycle were the best. As hosts they were more than accommodating. The rooms where clean and comfortable, the environment was original; our host were great! We will definitely be back! I would not hesitate to recommend Kathy and Martins place to anyone!

My girlfriend and I loved our stay with Kathy and Martin. The home is very accessible to all of the great breweries and wineries in the area, and also various hiking trails that Martin can tell you all about. The breakfast was really good. Kathy and Martin really know how to run a bed and breakfast, they've been doing it for 30 years and you can tell. We definitely plan to go back before the summer is over.

Kathy and Martin generously accommodated my late night arrival and their inn is lovely and friendly, with delicious homemade continental breakfast. If you stay there on a weekend, be sure to check out the farmers market just down the road.

What a beautiful and unique setting. Martin and Kathy were great host. The rooms have the original stall doors and Kathy's art work adorns the walls. Breakfast was lovely. We really hope to get back.

Kathy and Martin were wonderful hosts! The Inn was a perfect weekend getaway from the city. So much personality in this place. We really enjoyed the warm homely feel and the many beautiful peices of art. You get the feeling that Kathy and Martin have poured a lot of love and hard work into the inn, and what a wonderful job they did! It is very close to breweries as well. We will cetainly be back and hopefully soon! Next time we hope to bring a few other couples with us.

When you first pull in you feel a little lost. Martin came out, so we parked on the side of the main house and checked in there. Everything is clean and in place, but the furniture is a little dated. The pillow and bed weren't the most comfortable to sleep on. They're rather short so if I were any taller my feet would be dangling off the edge. The air is pretty stagnant in the room, so remember to turn on the ceiling fan since there's no AC. It lists there's shared bathrooms, but you have private toilets to use by the kitchen. They have a lounge room, which was pretty neat as well. All in all, they both were really sweet and nice, but I wouldn't recommend if you like your privacy and don't like being so close in proximity to other people (multiple showers in one room, etc) Also, they could have lighting on the sides of inn since it's so dark at night. Overall it was great.

Respuesta de Kathy & Martin:
First, David, thanks for your critique! We welcome and appreciate all comments and suggestions by our many diverse guests! In David's case, of course, we're really disappointed that he didn't have as nice a stay as we feel everyone deserves. I'd like to address each point, certainly not to diminish his observations, but to clarify and correct when necessary. Check-in: Though some guests drive around our circular driveway before seeing the two well-lit signs (one on the road; one on our driveway) and two well-lit walkways that lead to our front door (our home and check-in office)---most folks figure it out after one loop. Our "office check-in" (where we greet and sign in guests) may be relaxed, but in fact, it does reflect our premises. The Inn: Our 10-bedroom Inn was once a horse barn, so each bedroom (once a stall!) is inherently cozy (12 ft square), with a double bed (w. recently-purchased, medium-firm mattress), a desk, a wardrobe, a side table, reading lamps, and plenty of colorful artwork on the walls. To correct David's error, there IS central air-conditioning AND central heat. On Saturday, when David visited, February temps outside hit 75 degrees Fahrenheit! Evidently, the indoor central thermostat circulating (heated) air at 68 degrees, may have cut off. In such cases, most guests freshen the room by opening the 5ft tall, screened Anderson window in each room---(or ask us where they can swap their ski plans for a swimming hole ;). Guests enjoy the common areas so much that David is right about at least one (evidently popular) chair. Gotta get that tear in the seat fixed (sigh). Bathrooms are indeed shared---Four showers and six toilets, are divided between 4 locking bathrooms, Ladies' & Men's. Each of 4 showers (handicap & standard) has a curtain for privacy, but we encourage guests to allay all fears by simply flipping the lock on the bathroom door. This tip has worked safely for our guests since 1987! Finally, though most of our guests come out to the country precisely to experience a truly dark sky, we are required by code and our insurance company to have exterior lighting (motion-lights etc), so we aren't exactly sure where he felt it was too dark... To sum up, as experienced travelers ourselves, we recommend researching any destination prior to going there, so the place will fit your expectations. We hope no one ever shies away from talking to us immediately to address a discomfort or discuss a suggestion. We wouldn't be entering our 30th year without our guests! Thank you all so much! The Inn is a great place for a quiet getaway. Close to Wintergreen and many up and coming breweries/cideries/wineries in the area as well as a number of great restaurants, the Inn is nestled in a picturesque location perfect for an escape from a busy or stressful day-to-day environment. Kathy's photographs and artwork adorning the walls give the Inn a comfortable at-home feeling. However you will choose to spend your day, waking up to a breakfast spread of Kathy's baked goods will be an excellent start! I highly recommend staying at the Inn and will be looking forward to my next weekend getaway there myself!

Kathy Plunket Versluys is a professional photographer and printmaker. Martin Versluys is an avid cyclist, carpenter and conservationist from The Netherlands.
Prior to opening Acorn Inn, we lived and worked in Mexico and South America---so besides Kathy's artwork and photos, the walls of our rooms are warmed with folk art, masks and tapestries from our travels. We particularly enjoy honoring the creative spirit in everyone.
