A 7 minute walk to Warren St. this 4 room schoolhouse erected in 1900 has been renovated into 750 sq.ft.lofts and is located in the midst of one of the most gorgeous historic cemeteries in all of America.
This is a no shoe room and we ask guests to respect the space accordingly. Built in 1900 this Craftsmen's 4 room School House is located in the midst of one of the most gorgeous historic cemeteries in all of America, and a short 7 minute walk into town. Tailored after the cemeteries in Europe, it was created as a park to entice visitors. Many Hudson River School Painters made this their final resting place as well as famous inventors and titans of Industry. It is verily like walking through a 3 D history lesson.
This particular room is our pride & joy. Built around a 18th century Opium Wedding bed, it is an artistic blend of Asian and contemporary design. We made the bathroom & kitchen out of steel & frosted glass.
We feel it is truly a spiritual space in complete harmony with the natural beauty of the surrounding park/cemetery.

You will have access to this second story 750 sq.ft. classroom of the School House which has been converted into a studio loft space with a kitchen, bathroom, living space, 48" flat screen TV and authentic Chinese Wedding Bed (futon bed 80" x 50"). You also have access through the back door, to the fire escape landing and steps leading out to the Cemetery Park. On beautiful days you will encounter 3 cockatoos on the adjacent landing who will inquire about your health & well being and try to entice you to hang with them for a while (the whole day if they had their way) You are also welcome to use the washer & dryer ( or we would be happy to do a wash for you) located in the basement

My partner and I use the other upstairs classroom as our studio apartment in the Summer. so we'll be around to help out or answer any questions. Ieva Mediodia is our Winter Artist in Residence, and she or her Husband will be available to help you when we're not here

This a classroom with many large eastern facing windows, making it a very bright space early in the morning ...but we have placed a screen by the bed to help shield the early morning light. We thought long & hard about whether or not to add curtains/shades and decided the light is too glorious to hide and most guests agree but we're open to more input. It is still dark at night for those who like sleeping in total darkness. Also important to note is that the bed is an authentic futon and is 50" x 80"
Please treat it as you would your home, with the respect it deserves!
this is a no shoe room and there is no smoking inside, I'm sorry... but there is direct access through a back door and you're welcome to smoke on the fire escape if you close the door... the birds might ask you to mosey on down the steps...
also please use coasters on the wood tables and express yourselves gently on our 300 year old chinese wedding bed
