There is a 19 steps staircase.
We found in the famous guide this description of the Santa Croce Palance:
The Santacroce family owned several houses in the district of S. Angelo and as early as the fifteenth century; among them also the palace where he was housed the pawnshop.
The family wealth is due in large part to Cardinal Prospero Santacroce, who first introduced Tobacco in Italy from Portugal. The palace of Santacroceai Catinari was built between 1598 and 1602 by Onofrio and designed by Carlo Maderno. In a second phase, between 1630 and 1640, the facades were accomlished, probably by the artist Francesco Peparelli. The part of the building towards the end of Catinari, including a small fountain in the roof garden, is the work of architect Alessio De Ros(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)). The facades, restored in the nineteenth century, have three floors and a mezzanine between the first and second ones. On the facades there are three gates; the one of San Carlo square in Catinari bears the coat of arms of Santacroce and Sforza Cesarini, who are related with the last representative of the Santacroce family. The interior has two courtyards, once adorned with bas-reliefs and statues now dispersed; in the bottom of the courtyard is an eighteenth century fountain formed by an arch framed by pillars supported by telamons, the center of which depicts Venus born from the shell. The Palace, for several years hosted the Italo-Latin American Institute (now elsewhere) and finishing school in European Studies dependent on the Faculty of Economics, University of Rome.
We also discovered that the fountain was almost certainty a courting present of Duke Spage to Countess Pasolini dall’Onda who, in turn, not only did not want to marry the man but also refused to see the artwork at all!
Disponible para huéspedes
One of our guests told us “it is the first time that my accommodation is also a city monument - in order to start the tour of Rome the only thing necessary was to open my eyes in the morning! The house, ideal for families and small groups of friends or professionals is tremendously specious: you will have access to all spaces: there is a big terrace where to admire the city centre, a great living-room with relaxing sofas and armchairs, a traditional dining room and a kitchen. If you wish, our housekeepers can prepare and serve you dinner and breakfast. The sleeping area is composed of two big double rooms (20 mq) with king beds, plasma television, complete traditional furnitures and a third room with a small queen bed.
Both rooms are accessible from the living room and have the sky-blue bathroom in common. Moreover, we are refurnishing additional rooms, which will be bookable from the end of the summer.
