Dónde vas a estar

Ámsterdam, Noord-Holland, Países Bajos

Amsterdam Noord is an upcoming neighborhood in Amsterdam where you can find hip cafe's, dinings and cultural hotspots. The loft is situated next to the NDSM wharf. This is a stunning place to stroll around, enjoy some food and/or to enjoy a festival or exhibition.
After a warm day in the city you can take a swim in front of our house and enjoy the sunny 'Papaverpark'. Grab a coffee and delicious applepie at 'Waargenoegen' just around the corner!
The New York Times recently declared Amsterdam North to be one of the three hippest neighbourhoods in the world.
For more information about us, the loft and its surroundings please search for northernloft blogspot.
Please don't hesitate to ask us anything!

The neighborhood is very peaceful, safe and family-friendly. It has a bit of a village vibe inside a bigger city. The direct neighborhood is considered upscale, with lots of families with children living in the area.

There is a playground directly in front of the apartment, with a picnic area and the possibility to swim in the dock during summer.

There is also a traditional Dutch snackbar (Febo), and a bike rental (Halfords) just around the corner and an outisde neighborhood (farmers') market every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, called 'Pekmarkt'.

The market, and closest supermarket, grocery shops and stores are located at Mosveld, a 10-15 minute walk or a 3-4 minute bike ride.
The opening hours from the supermarket (Albert Heijn) are 7-22 and 8-22 during the weekend, also on Sunday!

It is very easy to get to the house from the Central Station.

Once you cross the IJ canal, it is 10-15 minute walk or 4 minute bike ride to the location of the apartment and studio's, if you are taking the ferry to the NDSM.

A bit longer if you use the ferry from Amsterdam central station to the A'dam tower.

The ferry is 100% free and you can take your bike on it, as the locals all do. We enjoy the ferry rides to the center and back, it's a nice ride over the water and with great view and boats passing by Amsterdam.

The closest ferry is the one at Distelweg or at the NDSM, bot around a 10-15 minute walk or a couple of minutes by bike.

This part of Amsterdam also offers great dinning experiences and fun things to do such as NDSM shipyard, local flea market, EYE film museum and much more.

For the best icecream of Amsterdam, make sure to check out 'ICE ICE BABY' at the Klaprozenweg. Perfect to end a busy day of sightseeing. And if you're not in the mood for cooking, there are dozens' of restaurants and platforms that offer takeaway of deliver meals/lunch and breakfast.

Parking is free at a 5-10 minute walk from the airbnb!
The closest supermarket is located at a 4-5 minute bike ride or 10-13 minute walk.

Find out more about the Amsterdam neighborhood of Noord, which encompasses both the modern northern waterfront of the IJ and the pretty rural villages to be found slightly inland.
If you’re visiting Amsterdam, chances are that you’ll begin on the south side of the River IJ – for example, arriving at Amsterdam Central Station. To begin exploring the district of Amsterdam Noord ('north') simply board one of the free ferries (by public transport operator GVB) at the waterfront exit of the station (following signs to ‘Noord’).

These public ferries depart every few minutes in daytime and even run (less frequently) through the night, transporting pedestrians, bicycles and mopeds.

Cultural, architectural & culinary achievements
Almost directly opposite Central Station stands the Eye Filmmuseum in all its futuristic glory. This cinema, museum, film archive and café/restaurant is a standout location; although it only opened in spring 2012, the building is already one of Amsterdam’s modern icons.

Around the corner, find the Tolhuistuin, another cultural hotspot that boasts a live music venue, a restaurant and much more. The eye-catching A’DAM tower redevelopment next door is further upping the ante in this area, providing space for bars, restaurants, nightclubs and other music businesses.

Rural chic
In what seems like direct contrast to the cutting-edge vibe, this area also has loads of lovely little villages that are ideal for exploring on foot, by bicycle or by water. Historic villages such as Nieuwendam, Ransdorp and Zunderdorp have authentic stolpboerderijen (traditional Dutch farmhouses with roofs built in the shape of a cheese-cover), wooden houses, canal locks and impressive polder views.

From this location, it's also very convenient to explore more toward the North, and some traditional and authentic villages like Volendam, Monnickendam and last but not least, Marken!

Hop on the ferry and cross the IJ-lake to discover this raw part of town. Amsterdam North has an industrial feel and became one of the coolest neighborhoods over the last years. More and more hotspots are popping up! Visit urban beaches like Café de Ceuvel, Noorderlicht and Pllek!

Both perfect spots to relax and enjoy the warm weather on the waterfront. Other nice places overlooking the IJ-lake are film museum EYE (enjoy the sunset on their beautiful terrace!), seafood restaurant Stork and THT restaurant.

One of our favorite areas in Amsterdam North is the NDSM Wharf. Known as one of the best festival locations of Amsterdam. North is also the place to be for vintage and thrift shopping. You can’t miss the monthly flea market in the IJ-hallen, a true second hand heaven.

The NDSM Wharf - Old shipyard turned creative haven
A former shipyard located on the banks of the River IJ in Amsterdam Noord, the NDSM Wharf has blossomed into an enormous cultural hotspot in recent years with a vibrant artist community and an ever-expanding variety of bars and restaurants. With grounds exceeding the size of ten football pitches, the area hosts multi-disciplinary festivals, performances, exhibitions, dance parties and a wide range of other events in unique, post-industrial surroundings.

The NDSM Wharf is a hipster hotspot where they have creative events all your round. This area with a raw and industrial vibe houses the ateliers from experimental artists. You will find cool street art on every corner of the street; it is for a reason young creative come here to get inspired.

A Good spot for casual lunch is Pllek. For dinner you can visit Bistro North.
To easiest way to reach the NDSM Wharf is by taking the boat from Central station. Are you a vintage lover? Don’t forget to visit the IJ-hallen flea market! Your wallet will be happy and the chance of finding a treasure in someone else its trash is great since it’s the biggest indoor flea market of Europe!
